We had some interesting run-ins with cacti in Arizona. I have learned to be careful. Some of it just jumps you when you aren’t looking.

Yes.. the jumping cholla. I was noticing as we drove along the main road that every one of them had a little pile of round spiny segments under it that had jumped off. The slightest touch and they become detatched..or sometimes just air currents.. thus it feel like they are jumping out at you. Also called Teddy Bear Cholla.

My parents lived in Tucson for ten years before my dad died and my mom went on living there for 22 more years so I got to know AZ well even before my sister moved to Phoenix ten years ago.
