Tulip Tree with Kiskadee
This fellow was at the opposite end of the lot at the top of a giant African Tulip Tree. Thanks to the wonderful zoom on my new Canon camera, I captured him! Thanks, Canon.
He was catching bugs as they went by. You can see one in his beak in this photo.
Here you can see him going after yet another fly. It was an almost constant repetition of a theme. A great hunting ground! My shutter speed wasn’t fast enough to freeze his movement, but at least the flowers were in focus!
And then he flew away! He always returned, but my mind turned to other things, and two days later I had this nice surprise on my camera when I finally got around to downloading the pictures from my camera. Another day’s challenge met!!!
(In Mexico, the name for the African Tulip Tree is Tulipan. It is also sometimes called a Fountain Tree.)

They are so beautiful. I have a yellow one in my yard but it was blocking the view almost completely so I had to cut it down. It still sends up runners every year.

Well, the bird furnished the blurring effect, camera furnished the great zoom..All I furnished was the steady hand and patience. Thanks, Soul n Spirit. I was thrilled to capture this. It was at the birthday party of a friend in the same place where we held the children’s camp..One of my favorite places.

Lovely, Judy! Which model Canon did you get? I am thinking about getting another as my current Canon is over the hill and the good lens that came with it died a couple of years ago and I had to replace it with a cheaper substitute which is very restrictive. Any suggestions?

I have had 6 digital cameras and I like this one the most. I don’t even really know how to use most of the features, but it is pretty easy to use, has a great zoom and the quality of pictures is good, I think. Those pictures of the birds in the Tulip tree were taken from under Agustin’s awning in the garden part of his restaurant and that tree was very tall and either at the very back end of his property or in the yard next door…That was quite a zoom. It is a Canon SX710HS with 30X zoom. The battery is expensive (it comes with one, but I bought a spare) but it lasts at least four times longer than any battery I’ve had in the past. I think I took at least 200 pictures a day for 4 or 5 days before I needed to recharge the battery and usually they run out in one day. The only negative is that the wheel to change shooting programs is on the back rather than the top, so when I put the camera into and pulled it out of my jeans pocket, it tended to turn the dial. I’d always forget and would have to change it back after I noticed a few pictures didn’t seem to focus. This is a small ill, though, as I don’t often put my camera in my pocket as I did during the two weeks of camp. I bought it at Best Buy. Good luck.
