Is this the whitest foot you’ve ever seen in your life? When Edith said she’d “fit me in” for a manicure/pedicure after my haircut and hot oil treatment, I didn’t realize just how much “fitting” was going to be done. She’d remove my old polish, then dye someone else’s hair, then do my cuticles, then cut someone else’s hair, then trim my nails, then wash out the dye, then buff my heels, then. . . . When I was finished, I looked at my watch and was amazed to note I’d been there five hours!!! I barely made it to my Not Yet Dead Poets meeting on time. But, it ended up she had fabulous internet service. I sat at the manicure table and wrote my blog and the time flew as usual.
List 2 things you have to be happy about?
I am happy that I am going in two days to see good friends on Prince Edward Island as well as in Missouri, Alabama and Minnesota. I am also happy to have found two wonderful house sitters to care for my canine and feline babies while I’m off cavorting around the world without them.
If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?
I think the most idyllic place I’ve ever been is Bali. I will probably never go back because I’m afraid it would cancel out my previous wonderful experiences there–first in the early 70’s when everything was unspoiled and amazing, then again in the nineties when I went with my husband Bob. I think he had an epiphany of sorts there. I certainly did the first time I went.
Should children be seen and not heard?
Who would want to miss out on the wonderful things children say? When I was visiting my friend Patty and her grandson came running up (after throwing a quarter in a wishing pond at the Holiday Inn where we were having brunch) he said, “Dad. Dad. I got my wish!” I told him I’d made a wish as well and he said, “Oh, did you wish to be younger?” Ah the refreshing truths told by the young and untactful.

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
I am glad to be amoeba-free at last but sad to have discovered that Frida has an enlarged heart that is making it impossible for food to pass to her stomach and which is also impeding her breathing. I look forward to hearing next week that the IV’s have made it possible for her to get nourishment and that the meds have shrunk her heart , making her breathing less labored and enabling her to keep food down.

You just reminded me how much I need a pedicure … and how much I can’t afford one right now. I’m sorry about Frida. I hope she’s better very quickly. Sick pets are the worst.
You have a friend in Massachusetts. Just in case you feel like visiting New England in the glorious autumn of the year.

I’d love to come visit some time. I’ve never seen New England in the fall.. in person. Pedicures are so cheap in Mexico…about ten bucks U.S.!!!!

White? Not sure? I am assuming it is your foot? It could do with some sun for sure …? A few years ago, I was thinking of moving to Nova Scotia. Yet then realized. I would be moving away from family and friends so, ruefully dropped the idea. Glad I did. For even more other reasons but always view that part NS and PEI with regrets, even so.
Even here is Victoria B.C. the leaves are turning to gold. Fall does not officially start for another 3 weeks.
A good exercise for the feet. Is to stand on tiptoe for a minute, then slowly return to the floor and the last half inch or so return with a thump, enough to make your heel underside pump. Six times twice a day and the arches will strengthen and begin to have good shape. With regard to children. It depends on their parental upbringing. Some children are precocious, for sure.
Best wishes, Cheers Jamie.

I have a pigment disorder so I can’t tan. No melatonin in my skin..sort of a slowly developing albinoism. (Not a word.) The result is that the eyelashes on my left eye are completely white while the ones on my right are black. I am happy for mascara!!!

Ah well, so it is revealed. I met a woman while in Philippines, who had, had something similar. Then she had some thing injected, to make her all white. Like an Englishman? So now she is prone to sunburn. She stands out in a crowd, of other Philippinas. Yet she is native to her island of Camiguin. I enjoyed that island immensely. There is Belgian man living there, who is making honey for sale locally. He’s quite the salesman. Cheers Jamie.

Me too. I need to call the vet this morning to see how she is faring on the IV and new meds. Poor baby. She really didn’t seem like she was upset. Her tail still wagged. Hope that is so when I see her today!!!

Hmmm, is polishing you heels like polishing off a fifth?

Nope. Doesn’t have the “healing” qualities.

Amazing how far-flung are lives have become. We have friends on multiple continents, talk to them daily, and imagine ourselves visiting the far corners of our planet.

I know. Don’t you love it? Almost unnecessary to do the actual traveling.
