Myth or Liar? (A Prevarication Primer)

What is the difference between a myth and lie?
Four and twenty blackbirds baked into a pie
clearly is a myth because it is impossible,
while your claim you baked that pie you bought is just implausible.

It seems the only difference is a matter of degree.
The biggest lie’s the only one to go down mythically.
If you aim small, it’s true they’ll only label you a liar.
If you want to be a legend, simply aim your lying higher!!!!

The prompt today is “Mythical.”

I looked out my window this morning and saw four-and-twenty magpies eating the seeds I put out for the bluejays just ten minutes before. (This is a lie. There were only eight magpies.)
I had to do something, so I got out my shotgun and blasted them all to kingdom come. Got every last one of them with one shot, too. (This is a myth. I won’t say why.) 🙂

When i was younger, I made up more. Mostly excuses when the real truth was I just didn’t want to. Whatever it was. Now, though, I try to stick to the truth because I can’t remember even that very clearly. If I make up something different, it’s guaranteed to come back and bite me. It might do that anyway, even if it’s the truth.

The mythology is all here, on the internet. Because we don’t have to be real here, right?

Your poems are so good that I have been trying to find one that I read a few days ago — it stuck in my mind, thats how good it was. I want to share it with a friend. But now I cannot find it!! Is there a place on your blog with just the poems? Also, now I want to read your book. Whoops, just found it, the one about myths and lies. WordPress is so tricky to learn. I have to keep at it a little each day.

My blog has a search bar at the top right of the page where you could enter the subject . I’m going to try entering Myths in it and will send you the URL..brb.
In the future, if you go to the HOME page, you can scroll through all the entries faster.. Wait one minute and I’ll find that poem for you, Carol.
