I stopped to photograph this beautiful tree, but I’m unsure what it is. Its blooms look like orchids and so I’ve always called it an orchid tree. A friend thought it was an hibiscus, but I’m sure it isn’t. Anyone know the correct name? Jude at cornwallincolours has solved the mystery. It is, in fact a purple orchid tree. Its scientific name is bauhinia variegata. Thanks, Jude! Go see her beautiful varied Cornwall sky photos. The link is above.

It does look like a cross between a hibiscus and an orchid!

I love you!!! This is so much more satisfying than spending a half hour on Google!! I do appreciate your solving the mystery. I will post the correct name forthwith. Thanks, Jude. (That’s what my husband used to call me. I like it so much better than Judy.)

No idea, but it does look like an orchid. I sometimes get results looking thing up by color and then they have other questions about how many leaves, size, etcetera. Sometimes you get an answer.
