Although this is a color photo, the world seems reduced to black and white by this snowstorm I awoke to yesterday. This is the first time I’ve experienced snow in 15 years or so. I had forgotten how hushed the world becomes in snow. Sheridan, WY, Oct. 13, 2018. Below, a bit of color is returned to the scene.

For Becca’s Sunday Trees prompt.
not the beach, is it. Snow day here in the rockies.

I think it is the prettiest town I’ve ever seen.. including the surrounding countryside. Just gorgeous in any season, but in fall–OMG.

It’s been a strange week for weather — First Michael, then Sergio, both causing odd behaviors! We had about 6 hours of thunderstorms a couple of nights ago — that brought in a surprising wintry rainy day yesterday, and it’s still cloudy this morning. By tomorrow we will have Santa Ana winds (hot winds coming from the desert)!!

Do you have the problem of the changed air routes that send planes right over your house or are you far enough south that this doesn’t affect you? My friend in Huntington Beach is being driven crazy by the noise and is considering moving as a result.

Only occasionally! I’m actually south of John Wayne (Santa Ana) Airport, which has a curfew from 11 pm to 7 am, so nighttime noise is only from planes coming in to LAX from the south, which I do hear when the atmosphere is just right (or wrong). The takeoff from SNA is also over Newport Beach (still to the north) and the water, and is a noise abatement slingshot takeoff (scary if you’ve never done it!). I’m inland from Laguna Beach, about 15 miles to the south of the airport. It used to be noisier here when El Toro MCAS was active — I was about a mile from the end of that runway, and the planes used to open & close our garage doors as they went past — that was noisy!

You’re in Wyoming! Yes, when I lived in New Jersey, the winter really reduced outside color options to white and shades of gray. I am so glad to live in the desert now–green and other colors all winter long.

It was a surprise for me, too, even though I knew it was a possibility. Thank goodness I brought one pair of closed-toe shoes.

OMG — what a beautiful sight —
I am not sure I would be ready for snow in mid October!! As it is — it was 90 degrees yesterday here in Central Texas, and we woke up to 42 degrees this morning — and that was the high for today and tomorrow with LOTS of rain (which we need)! I am hoping it is not a prediction for our winter. 🙂
