Happy May Day!! No Maypoles in Mexico. Here it is celebrated as Labor Day which means no one works. Ha. I, however, will not use that as an excuse to shirk my duty. Here is a shot of Morrie and Diego enjoying the pleasures of the back yard. Diego sips from the biggest water dish in the world as Morrie seems to be in the act of sitting down, rather awkwardly, I might add. In the foreground, the last of the poinsettias, in the middle, a plumeria/frangipani tree in full bloom, cactus, various bougainvillea, Virginia creeper and palms. This is the view from my writing desk. Not my usual flower closeup..

it is paradise down here, Kim. Subtropical. Largest lake in Mexico surrounded by dormant volcanoes, a mile high. Dry climate, suprisingly, partly due to the elevation, I guess. I can see Colima–one of the most active volcanoes in the world–from my house when the trees aren’t in the way. It is what heats the water in my pool. Try not to hate me….

My husband was 16 years older than I was. We were both artists and he was lifting huge weights as his sculptures got bigger and heavier. We were also traveling doing art shows. setting up booths. Very hard labor all the way around. I felt I had to get him away from that and Mexico was affordable and a place I’d been planning to go to when I retired.. which would have been 10 years later if I hadn’t been married to an older man. I pushed him to try it out for a year, but once we got down here, after initially hating it, he was the one who wanted to buy a house and move here permanently. We ended up doing so, went back to the states to pack up another van load of possessions and have moving sales. Once set, we were packed up and ready to leave when we discovered he had cancer. He lived just 3 weeks. After a month, I moved down alone (a friend drove down with me and flew back to the states) and I’ve lived here ever since.

That is so sad. I’m glad you got your paradise, but sad you lost your partner to share it with. My biggest fear. 😔 I keep trying to tell mine we should bite the bullet while he is still young enough and able to do stuff, but that’s not our only issue. I can’t leave my Dad here and I’m sure he wouldn’t want to move with us. Our dream place is somewhere on the coast of Texas, but as pretty as your place is, now I want to visit it. Is it safe there? My husband is scared to death to visit anywhere in Mexico because of all the crime. I’ve been to Cozumel a couple of times on cruises, and nice we walked across into Matamoros but that’s my only experience with Mexico. 😊

Look online for videos of Lake Chapala and Ajijic. There are tons of videos. It is beautiful here and tons to do.. lots of writers, actors, musicians. Lots of volunteer work to do.

Which sort of reminds me… I have a topic you might like to work your literary magic upon if you feel like it?
In a conversation i was having earlier on i was discussing the deplorable state of many country’s leaders/politicians and pointed out that the Ukraine recently voted in as their President a man who was a professional comedian in a TV show and that was his sole qualification to lead the nation. I made the comment (to an American citizen, who said she felt the need to apologise sometimes on behalf of Trump) that if you are going to elect a Joke of a President then you might as well make sure he is a professional!
Could you take it further and think of other professionals who would make a better job of leading their country than anyone with any political experience whatsoever??
Or take it in another direction even??

Love your yard! It’s reminiscent of, but not like the yards in Hawaii! Have you been affected by recent volcanic or earthquake activity?

No. There was a quite large earthquake in February but it was so deep under the surface that we felt it a bit in La Manzanilla, and several after shocks but they were milk enough so some of us noticed them and some didn’t I was in a large hall watching a movie when it happened.
