A lovely poem sent to me by my friend Ken today:
How to Spend a Birthday
Launch Audio in a New Window
BY LEE HERRICK
Light a match. Watch the blue part
flare like a shocked piñata
from the beating
into the sky,
watch how fast thin
wood burns & turns toward the skin,
the olive-orange skin of your thumb
& let it burn, too.
Light a fire. Drown out the singing cats.
Let the drunken mariachis blaze their way,
streaking like crazed hyenas
over a brown hill, just underneath
a perfect birthday moon.
lol a very different birthday wish but I’m sure it’s loaded with personal insights 🙂

I can’t believe how many people I know born on either the 3rd or 4th of July. Happy birthday! I know birthdays don’t bring us quite the twinkle they did when we were younger, but still … aren’t we delighted that we ARE here to enjoy them? Be joyful!

I’ve always loved birthdays and this one was as special as always. I have some stories to tell but will save them for a blog. I picked you up three copies of the Ojo with your story in it and will get them to you. Can you email me your mailing address? If you have no need of three copies, tell me what will suffice. xo J
