   Elizabeth is right – she was young at the time and didn’t have a better option. But I can’t begin to imagine what life was like serving an evil person.

      In addition, they seemed to be totally isolated so even though her village was near the camp, she didn’t know about it..sounds like they lived apart from family and villages during that period.

   What struck me was that the people were poor and hopeful of a better future…not unlike many today. We seem to never learn. It’s the old Handsel and Gretel tale – hungry, and innocent as children, we are lured by malevolent forces. Hope we save ourselves in the end.

   I always wondered how people could just sit by and do nothing to stop Hitler. Unfortunately, I think I am beginning to see how it happened! We can never forget this horrible time in history and we must do all we can to stop it from ever happening again! Pray for peace!!

   But she DID know. She knew about Kristallnacht. She knew about the internment of Jews and the slaughters.

   SHE KNEW.

   And she’s sort of sorry now.

      That was presented in the documentary but sounded to me like she didn’t know the full extent of what was going on until afterwards.
