The Supervisor

The Supervisor

He’s enamored of particulars, pedantic to the end.
Impressed by rank and privilege and rules ones can’t bend.
Though not swimming in his compliments, He’s lavish in critique—
always another detail he can find for you to tweak.
If you’re in constant contact, you have my sympathy
as well as sincere thankfulness that it’s not empathy!!!

Prompt words today are pedantic, rank, contact, lavish and swimming.

I can totally relate to the last line. I have been incredibly lucky to have a Department Chair who is the loveliest, most helpful, and most understanding of all I have ever come across. The exact opposite of the SOB you’ve so cleverly described.
I am afraid to ask, whose photo is it?

That is Forgottenman just joking around. I had this on file…ha. He is the most unvain man I’ve ever met.. the worse the photo the more he loves it! Good sport. And, I can’t remember ever having a supervisor like this although I did once serve on a board of directors with one..Not fun.

I thought it was he; that’s why I was afraid to ask.
Actually, I have been lucky for most of my career. I had one in Russia (a Ukrainian woman and a party member to boot!) who came to the train station to see me off when I was being expelled from the country as “the enemy of the people.” By doing that, she risked not only her career, but also her freedom and possibly her life.

He’s not pedantic about anything except apostrophe usage and kitchen cleanliness, luckily…In no way was the poem about him..he was just sitting there in my computer asking to illustrate it.

I figured the poem was not about him – he is not your supervisor after all. He is just a wonderful person if he doesn’t mind your using his photo to illustrate this; I wouldn’t dare use any of my friends’ photos this way. I can relate to apostrophe usage.

Although I didn’t know a name for it, I was taught to use the Oxford Comma; otherwise the general rule for commas was “if in doubt, leave it out!” With those two rules, I seldom end up with sentences that are confusing because of a comma or a lack thereof!

I personally feel that punctuation within poetry is a good tool in keeping proper meter, as well as making a point with the person reading it; possibly in addition to proper grammar. So to find fault with this can be as wrong as the person using it. I find French enjambment poetry sometime confusing, dull, enigmatic and without merit. Now as for your above statement, with the multiple exclamation marks, were you really shouting at me, just exited or trying to make a point ? But what do I know ? I rest my case.

I hope you are “Just Joking” because while you were writing this I was on my Facebook writing this:
“From the time that man, Trump, was elected, I said that he is going to try to become a dictator or a “President for life”~! That is the way he thinks and acts, he sees in his self the embodiment of omnipotence with omnipresence. To Him he is the “All Being”, the alpha and omega, in all things, knowing more than doctors, scientists, religious persons, and of course the common man. If he has his way he would do away with anyone who does not think as he does. Would we in centuries to come have still another religion called Trump-ism~? His followers think this way~!

Like Napoleon, he should be put him on an island with no way to communicate with the rest of the outside world, with the only incoming being possibly Fox News. Did people of the past think this way of Mohammad, or Jesus taking the place of their multi Gods of the past~?

Does anybody else think that he could possibly be a Demigod or even a God to his base in years to come~? I saw this happen in Louisiana when I was growing up with ritual votives in homes constructed to Huey Long with his picture, fake flowers and votive candles in a special place.

Sorry if I see him coming I would DUCK~!

Trump isn’t smart enough to be pedantic.. He doesn’t even know the rules. Just makes his own. Luckily, I’ve known people like this but never worked for one.

        Judy,
Some time back I mentioned to you that I had sort of a connection with El Ojo Del Largo and Chapala too, and you questioned my statement. I do not know if you remember this, but I do, and in a way, I have a close connection, and I am interested in getting more current information from that area as it has been a long time and I feel that one person connected with me and known to El Ojo may have died. I see that you have made submissions to that journal. But I can not do this on WordPress for personal reasons of the individuals concerned and I am not feeling that the knowledge I have should be made public. Are you still interested in this subject~? I need information of one close relative there, and have information of several others. I can give you one hint, do you ever go down to Vicky’s Sourdough Donuts in Ajijic~? It is said that they have great food, Have you met the Cordero’s who own it~? It is behind the big green tractor tire in the ground near the Wall Mart. No they may not know me as many years have gone by, but they may recognize my name.
It has been many years sense I was last in Guadalajara, but loved that area long before Chapala became a place of “el refugio Americano”.
Interested~? I do have your email address but would not use it without your permission.

Thanks Judy, this is nothing beyond family, but it covers things that I would not want to spread around to persons not needing to know. I am looking for someone I no longer hear from, who may have died, and the best way to find out is through a local third person. I hope that all is well there, we had a terrible storm pass through last night, but I badly needed the rain for my rain water system. I have enough for a year or so now. I designed my home and system to be very frugal. When I told this to a friend I was told: “maybe you do not bath often enough”. I said no I just do not need to stand under the shower for an hour, just to feel good~! I was looking for a large mixing bowl and asked Maria if she had seen it. She said yes, and opened the dish washer which she was using as a storage place for large bowls, etc. I have two dish washers, one in the house and one in the barn, but neither have been used in several years, with Shirley we needed them, alone, it is easier to just wash what I use. Can’t
            use too much water~!
You might enjoy the photos of what my flowers are looking like right now. I wish I could have a garden like yours, but I would have to move down there to do that, and this time of the year I realize that I should be happy.. I did have a nice green yard when we lived in Houston which I will soon post photos of.

My last boss before I retired was that boss you describe — a woman who had been a very effective boss of bank tellers, but transferred those skills to her sales force. We had had another similar boss, who ended up being fired, then one of the two best bosses I ever had in 40 years of work, then this pedantic one — she was one of the factors in my choice to retire when I did!

Oh but I had one like that~! A person much like Trump, and for many of the same reasons, He was dumb !, and had the similar bigoted attitude typical to many East Texas people, (you know if lighter in skin tone than him then not as smart), and with limited learning in the education of subjects he was supposed to have had for his position. His job previous to coming to work with us was as head of the sewage department in Tyler Texas. So due to a an old school “friend” of his, he was sent to South America as general manager over a large area in an exploration district. He had no background in geology, Physics, instrumentation, petroleum, civil engineering, or human resources, and did not speak one word of Spanish, these all main subjects required in his position, so like Trump, he tried to lie and “fake it”. This is when I realized that a diploma does not mean that you are intelligent, in fact he did not know his job from S**t~! I saw at least two technical people cold cock him and quit their good jobs. Clients told me to keep him away from them, and I had many words to let him know how dumb he was. I ended up threatened to take him to court for some of his improper statements. And if he was pedantic, it was not, similar to Trump, in subjects necessary to his position and certainly not in a manly way as far as I know.
