Monolingual

Monolingual

Your language is not plain enough.
I do not get this “jibbing” stuff.
It angers me to have to look
these sailing terms up in a book.
Perhaps you are too lofty for
a small town landlocked jungle girl?

Prompt words today are jib, plain, anger, lofty, jungle.

Just for the fun of it, I wrote this poem line-by-line as I looked up the new prompt word without knowing what the next one was. I sort of got led down the proverbial password path!

By a) asking Mr Google, and b) asking friends who sail. If you look at your picture, you’ll see two sails, the large square one in the middle (mainsail) and the smaller triangular one in front. That’s the jib, and working the jib allows you to maneuver the boat (zigzagging to catch the wind), which is what jibbing is all about.
P.S. I can’t wait to get on the boat already!

I actually did look it up to make sure the poem represented a jib correctly. But, that said, I’m no sailor, although I did once spend four months on a boat. I had nothing to do with sailing it, though.
