Computer Updates
Modern life is a rigmarole, day after day.
It radiates chaos for which you must pay.
If you’re hindered by change, then this isn’t your world.
Week after week, more updates are hurled
that change the position of all that you do.
How do I find “send?” I haven’t a clue!
They make no provision for those who are old
who have to remember instructions they’re told.
And just when they’ve memorized everything new,
all the things that they need have been placed out of view.
I find it uncouth that the programmers make
change after change just for change’s sake.
What is the purpose of transforming a word
into a symbol? I find it absurd.
Then putting it somewhere we don’t think to look
so we have to survey every corner and nook
just to perform a task we once found easy?
It makes us confused and a little bit queasy
that computer techs constantly accelerate
change so we’re always just out of date!!!!
Does it give them a lift and make them feel jolly
that they’re making their predecessors melancholy
for the old times when all the things found yesterday
were in the same place when looked for today????
Does anyone else keep getting the “Exchange Password Required” message dozens of times a day from Microsoft??? It is driving me crazy!!!!

I think (but I’m not sure) that it’s your “login” password to the computer.
Apple is worse than PC about this. Usually at least with a PC you know what they want, but with Apple, there are so many passwords, each for a different subsection of system. I wish I could turn off updates completely. I’ve HAD it.
Everything is updating and I can’t find anything anymore. One day last week my PC, the Mac, AND my Kindle and telephone ALL UPDATED ON THE SAME DAY. Yes, you can defer the update, but you can’t cancel it. And if you defer it long enough, the computers stop working until you let them update.

I get nervous every time a key program gets updated. It generally means something has changed and I can’t find it, as you pointed out.

One update on Microsoft and none of my three printers/scanners would work with the update. I’ve been suffering ever since trying to get my new one to work. One of my computers also no longer recognizes me since I tried to update it..So no, this is not fiction, Dolly, if you are reading this…

And if you use PS — THAT has been updating at least once a week and occasionally more often. Topaz is even worse.

Yes and it’s maddening. I think they have decided it’s too dangerous for us to be allowed to sign in and stay signed in. I’m passworking all the freaking time. They are going to protect us until we start to jibber.

Computers are such a basic part of our reality, no matter how much we hate the software, the updates, the weird operating systems — we are stuck. And Photoshop updated last night. That’s the SECOND TIME THIS WEEK. I’m trying to not get too upset because there’s absolutely NOTHING I can do about it, but I really hate it.

I use my Topaz filters more than Photoshop alone, but Photoshop provides the legs and the framework. I had THREE more updates today — two from Intel and another from Topaz. Oh, sorry, four. Also Photoshop. It’s maddening. They don’t leave you alone for even a couple of days.

We can all relate to that, Judy. I suspect the recurring message is a phishing device trying to worm its way into your hard drive. I would call Microsoft, rather than write.

Other people have reported it and I’ve had two tech guys try to deal with it . It is a glitch in Microsoft and I need to deal with it again when I get home. Too much going on.. I’ve been putting it off.
