Spring Picnic
That first tidbit of food
swallowed—
that morsel of potato salad
or that sip of lemonade—
activates what April picnics
are fated to attract
as surely as ants—
afternoon rains,
predicted as a slight chance
for this vicinity,
but now diluvial
in their force.

Going on a picnic is always inviting rain and ants.

I would enjoy the picnic anyway. Just be prepared with ants & rain.

Luckily, although I used the photo for illustration, we were not rained out… not usually a problem in South Dakota!

I love this — the photo reminds me of our family picnics in Montana when I was a kid. As well as ants, they attracted aunts.

Ha!!!!! I guess I only realized that subconsciously when I selected the photo? My deceased grandpa’s 90+ year old brother, Klaus, was visiting and this was the reason for the picnic. His favorite trick was standing on his head for us… even at that age.

I do enjoy picnics, though April is usually too early…

I’d fix a picnic in a heartbeat if I thought it would bring rain 🎉

Ha.. You just want it to settle the dust. I looked today and there was a fine layer of dust over the black cabinet in my bathroom. So I guess I am getting dust.
