Night Chorus
When a bright full moon escapes the cloud,
the dogs howl long and the dogs howl loud.
A burro brays its harsh assent
as wind whipped palms whisper consent.
Only you and I stay silent still
As the world around us speaks our will.
For dVerse Poets, the theme is Dark and the form is the Quadrille (44 words only.)

As the wind whipped palms whisper consent…terrific line for a wistful poem.

ll I honestly loved it. Everything fit right, creating mood and tension, because of such tight construction.

Thanks for your kind remark!!! For this challenge, I like to find a much longer poem I’ve written in the past and hone it down to just 44 words. It is good practice.

That is a great editing challenge – sometimes it’s much harder to reduce to 44 than create a new 44!

I meant to write “wonderfully” and “smooth” and “flow”.
Blame the gummies.

Ha. Now I don’t know if your praise was really due for my poem or the gummies!

The clouds had distorted it. I have about 11 shots of this moon that I took in rapid succession. Those really are clouds, I just sharpened the focus. It was night and most of the shots turned up red. This one seemed appropriate for the poem.

A stunning night chorus quadrille, Judy. I love the repetition in ‘the dogs howl long and the dogs howl loud’, the palms whispering consent to the whipping wind (that’s an image!), and the rhyming couplets.

Love the flow of it and all the movement and sounds.
By the way for the Quadrille prompt the given word or its variant must be used in the poem. It is not theme based.
