Night Chorus

Night Chorus

When a bright full moon escapes the cloud,
the dogs howl long and the dogs howl loud.
A burro brays its harsh assent
as wind whipped palms whisper consent.
Only you and I stay silent still
As the world around us speaks our will.

For dVerse Poets, the theme is Dark and the form is the Quadrille (44 words only.)

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

That is a great editing challenge – sometimes it’s much harder to reduce to 44 than create a new 44!

The clouds had distorted it. I have about 11 shots of this moon that I took in rapid succession. Those really are clouds, I just sharpened the focus. It was night and most of the shots turned up red. This one seemed appropriate for the poem.

A stunning night chorus quadrille, Judy. I love the repetition in ‘the dogs howl long and the dogs howl loud’, the palms whispering consent to the whipping wind (that’s an image!), and the rhyming couplets.
