My dogs actually love used coffee grounds! How do I know this? Because I just had Pasiano replant a large anthurium plant in a new flower pot and later, when I was cleaning up the kitchen, I noticed the coffee grounds in the basket of the coffee maker. Remembering that they were good for plants, I went out and scattered them over the dirt of the newly planted anthuriums and Coco immediately ran over and started LICKING THE DIRT! He was frenzied in his antics, so I scattered the rest of the grounds in his dish and not only Coco but also Zoe competed in licking them up. Already hyper, I wonder what this will do to them? Who would have guessed. Now need to go Google it. Do all dogs love coffee grounds?
Months ago, Chris and Barb brought me this gorgeous anthurium in a Talavera vase. Now twice as big, It is the plant I transferred to the bigger pot on the terrace. Hope anthuriums like coffee as much as my dogs do.
Oh No! I should have Googled this earlier. This is what I just read!!!

An interesting – and informative – heads-up. Thanks for sharing this!!
BTW – our cock-a-poo is also named Coco. We love him so much. He makes us laugh every day!!

Would you ever have guessed caffeine is bad for dogs? It says 2 caffeine pills ingested can kill a dog!!! Mine still seem fine. They are always hyperactive so hard to tell…although it says too much caffeine can make them lethargic..Always a new thrill.

My rescue was named Chocolaté but Yolanda insisted that was a male name and she is a female so we renamed her Coco. She, too, thinks she is a male, though.

Our Coco is a male. I didn’t think about it being either male or female when we named him but do have a lot of people assuming the latter!
We have a couple of nicknames for him: Coco Boy, the Cocanator, I’m also fond of just calling him Puppy!

I don’t think Coco or Chocolate sound like they denote a certain gender, either. Perhaps they think that because of Coco Chanel….but I just think of it as a shortened version of cocoa..which has no gender.

We also call him Big Coke. HA!!

Odd that the dogs loved it so much. Good to know so far they are okay, and now we know it’s bad for them. 🙂

They seem fine. Janet made a good point. Maybe most of the caffeine went into the brew and washed out of the grounds. They still seem to be fine.

Hopefully the fact that the coffee grounds were used took some of the toxicity out of them for the dogs!

Good point. Thanks, Janet.

Maggie loved the froth on latte coffee, and Maya does too. However, we discovered that the coffee shops we visited used ‘real coffee’ and this made Maya very hyper, so she doesn’t get the coffee froth now. Some coffee house do a Pup Cup which is just frothy milk or cream so she doesn’t miss out.

You might want to Google it..That said, my dogs seemed to love those ground as much as canned dog food!

I did — the caffeine in the grounds (or a cup of coffee) can kill dogs. Most of what’s in my empty coffee cup is cream.

Luckily my three all seem fine. Were sleeping outside but rushed into their doggie domain when I turned the light on and seemed their usual selves.

I hope the dogs suffer no ill effects from the coffee grounds.

Phew! I’ve read that chocolate is bad for pets too. My experience with dogs is non existent and with cats it was very short.

I’m not surprised. Our oldest dog (who died last October) loved to drink coffee from our cups! Her behavior didn’t change, so we think she was a practiced coffeeholic in another life.

yes. It seems not to have affected them. They say to thank their Aunti Dolly for asking.
