Reclaiming the Ship of State, For the Sunday Whirl Wordle #777

Reclaiming the Ship of State

Let’s show a little backbone and vote for what we believe––
that success is in the giving and not what we receive.
Of course, some think the opposite and I have a hunch
that those beings who think otherwise are a shifty bunch.
“You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours, these greedy shysters say,
tallying up their billions before they hit the hay.
They storm our capitols and courts, streaming in enmass
to do their bit by self-rewarding bills and laws to pass.
What care they for the needy––the aged, poor and ill?
So long as they have license their own pocketbooks to fill?
Their diamond rings and yachts and planes do not grow on trees,
so they will requisition your tax dollars, if you please!!!
Therefore, when casting ballots, please remember what you’ve read.
To reclaim our ship of state, you’d best vote Blue, not Red!!!

For The Sunday Whirl Wordle #777 the prompt words are: show backbone beings believe bit storm stream ring scratch hunch

About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.
