Mexicans call this flower an Arete flower, which means earring. It s a variety of fuchsia.

Yolanda calls my fuchsia vine flowers “aretes” or earrings, so this is what I call them, too.

Ten days ago, I published a photo of a totally white flower with a white ball in the center. Yolanda called it an arete flower, I knew it as a fuchsia and suspected it was a bleeding heart, but I’d never seen a totally white one before. A few days later, the white ball had turned red and I published another photo of it. Now, here it is opened up. Not a bleeding heart, but definitely a fuchsia and what Yolanda calls, in translation, an earring plant.
