Yoga and Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Time of Shelter in Place

Yoga and Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Time of Shelter in Place

I   stands alone at stiff attention,         cooking to release her tension.
S   does curls to contradict her             tendency toward getting thicker.
O  shows effects of chocolate chips     on her tummy and her hips.
L   just sits there in her hut                   trying to compress her butt.
A   Hands on knees, head on floor,      “A” vows that she will binge no more.
T   spreads her wings but cannot fly.   “Eating in Place” the reason why.
I   folds her wings tight by her side.
O   eats more cookies, growing wide.
N   sits on butt in yoga pose.
Each hand on floor behind her goes,
feet raised up, point to the sky,
       resisting the effects of pie
on tummy, waist and hips and thigh.

For NaPoWriMo 2020, Day 23, the prompt was: “to write a poem about a particular letter of the alphabet, or perhaps, the letters that form a short word. Think about the shape of the letter(s), and use that as the take-off point for your poem.”

What is the Prettiest Cookie in the World?

I vote for Petit Ecolier European Biscuits. Beautiful little works of art and delicious!!! (Little Schoolboy Cookies)

What do you vote for? Take a photo and pingback to this post.  A cookie can be very good company.

Why I Don’t Bake!!!!

Why I Don’t Bake!!!!

Disclaimer: Dolly, best you don’t view this one.

Well, it all started when I mistakenly bought non-gluten shortbread flour rather than corn flower at the local market that caters to expats. Since I’d thrown the receipt away and since I suddenly had a free day, thanks to the fact that the animals had not awakened me for their feeding in time to make the event I was supposed to go to, I decided to follow what looked like an “easy” recipe.

Wrong!!!  Four hours and two old movies* later, here is the final result. Oh, and if you were going to comment that they probably taste better than they look, WRONG. They taste terrible, partially due to the fact that I just noticed while taking these photos that the shortbread mix was a month out of date when I bought it. Or perhaps it is supposed to taste stale.  I just know that trying to get shortbread cookies blended and moist enough and rolled out without crumbling is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!  And the glaze is another story all together.  All-in-all, I’ll buy my Little Schoolboy cookies at the store after this, never mind their very inflated price here. Click on the first photo if you are a glutton for punishment and want to see captions and enlarged views of my cooking disaster.

*To encourage myself to spend more time in the kitchen, I put an old TV with a VHS player in it in the kitchen and I’m watching my extensive collection of VHS movies before disposing of them. Any of you out there with a VHS player who want them, they are yours for the postage..or for the picking up.

Advice to a Brand New Stepmom

Advice to a Brand New Stepmom

Release your indignation. Try to quell your grief.
The air is redolent with clues of the impish thief.
Don’t you smell the bubble gum? Can’t you catch a sniff
of the perfumed hair gel that makes his hair so stiff?
Those two dozen cookies that you’d put in a stack
to package for the bake sale, I’d bet are in a sack
high up in the tree house in your own back yard.
The next time you bake cookies, you’d better post a guard!

The prompt words today are thief, release, redolent and impish. Here are the links:

Share Your World, June 4, 2018

What is a piece of clothing from your younger childhood you still remember?

Version 2
I must have been very fond of this cowboy shirt, which was my sister Patti’s, as I’m wearing it in several photos.  I do question the ensemble, though.

This dress I wore my first day of school as a first-grader was one of my favorites.  The bib part was red.  Charmin Eide had one just like it with an orange bib, but mine was cooler.

Irregardless of your physical fitness, coordination or agility: If you could be an athlete what would do do?   Remember this is SYW, dreaming is always allowed.

I think a tennis player, so long as I had the body to go along with the short little skirt.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

Although I enjoy driving, when I’m a passenger, I can take photos, so if I’m with a good driver, I’d prefer to be on the passenger side.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?

When I came back from delivering some chocolate chip cookies to my across the street neighbor John, my cats had this interesting caterpillar cornered.  After rescuing it, in spite of the fact that it either bit me or just grabbed me with its pincher type feet, I took this photo of it:

Baker’s Dozen

Have you ever wondered where the phrase came from?  I had an epiphany moment when I was baking cookies a month ago, then forgot about it until I again baked cookies yesterday.  It was then that I realized if you place the balls in rows of 3, then 2, then 3, then 2, then 3 on a regular cookie sheet to leave room for expansion, you can fit exactly 13 cookies on the sheet!  Voila!! A baker’s dozen!!! I perhaps could have discovered this by looking it up on Google, but much more fun to discover such facts on your own!

Sugar, Sugar

Sugar, Sugar––You and Me

Hey, Sugar Sugar, you’re the one for me.
I enjoy each calorie.
Smooth or frozen with chocolate on top,
washed down with a glass of pop.
Pile on the sprinkles and roll in nuts.
You’re the best, no ands or buts.
My little Sugar is smooth and dreamy.
My little Sugar chewy, creamy.

Shortbread, brownies, chocolate chip––
in my coffee, I like to dip.
But cheesecake, pie––other forms of sin––
I put on the table and dive right in.
Swim to the middle with my teeth,
see what there can be beneath
the icing or cream or chocolate sauce.
When dessert arrives, Sugar’s the boss.

Hey Sugar, Sugar, you’re the one
in snow or rain or blistering sun.
I don’t care if you’re hot or cold.
Baked Alaska is great, I’m told,
but I also like a big old cone
just piled with ice cream, all alone.
Don’t touch my Sugar, don’t you dare!!!
When it comes to Sugar, I don’t share!!!
