The rainy season on Lake Chapala turns everything a lush green.  Although generally they flourish in a drier climate, the bougainvillea seem not to be minding it either.

The real flower of the bougainvillea is usually outshone by its brilliantly colored leaves.  Here the flower gets its due–center stage–while the flashy leaves retreat into the darkness.

Xmas in October (Umbrella Plant and Bougainvillea)

IMG_7203 IMG_7202The combination of the white and green star-shaped blooms on the umbrella plant combined with the red bougainvillea create a Xmas scene even before Halloween–which is echoed by the Xmas decorations already being displayed next to the Halloween costumes in Walmart in Ajijic.  Holiday madness has made it even to Mexico.  Sigh.
