They’re Back! Orange Thunbergia: FOTD Aug 25, 2023

These innocent-looking flowers actually invade my entire yard! They grow fast and furious and cover everything. Lovely for awhile, but then they totally die back and dry out, the vines have to be pulled off to reveal all the underkill.  Pasiano recently removed them from most places but left enough in this spot for the little rascals to come back. I love them, but not their final result.

Kudzu

Kudzu

By the statue of the satyr where the kudzu is the thickest,
I toil pulling roots out, and I swear I am the quickest.
Every place I see the vine, I vow that I will best it.
I remove  it from the soil, conquering it lest it
cover all my property from here up to the sea,
knowing if it had its way, that it would cover me!!!

Prompt words today are satyr, place, kudzu, toil, root and me.

Mexican Petunias: FOTD Aug 30, 2022

The plant guide says “Plant with caution!” Wish I’d read this nineteen years ago when I first received starters of these from my friend. They have spread everywhere!!!!! The flowers don’t last that long, but the tall plants pop up everywhere.

Mystery Flower: Flower of the Day, Aug 5, 2018

Unassuming flower, tall invasive plant.
Every time I see you, how I rave and rant.
Little did I know when I planted two or three
that within the year, you’d be the bane of me.
You don’t respond to pulling. Pop right up again
anywhere you want to, not just where you’ve been.

Filling all my borders, invading every bed.
How I wish I’d planted another plant instead.
Sedum is more ground-hugging. Spider plant is nice.
Dusty Miller never turns into a vice.
The one who made a gift of you knew just what to do.
She put up a “For Sale” sign and moved away from you!
