Let’s Walk!

Let’s Walk!
Your trendy vinyl raincoat should have served as premonition
that there’d be a soggy ending to our expedition.
Now the clouds are scudding over and the rain begins to fall
in a trance-inducing rhythm that socks it to us all
as we boogie down the sidewalk on the way to somewhere better
that now we’ll get to faster and for sure a whole lot wetter.

Prompt words today are sock, premonition, scud, trendy, trance and vinyl.

Coping with the Rainy Season

Coping with the Rainy Season

No kudos to the darkness.
No kudos to the rain.
No kudos to departed sun
until it comes again.
Kudos to my blankets
and kudos to my pillows.
So long as rain drips steadily
from eaves troughs and from willows,
I may never stir again. Bring me tea in bed.
No eggs, but English muffins, buttered, in their stead.
I want to stay all snuggled ’til rain has gone away.
Follow these same instructions on every rainy day!

The Ragtag prompt today is indulgence.

Against the grain

Against the Grain

On those days when constant rain
spits against my window pane
with droplets forming into chains
and rushing down like liquid trains,
I try to keep my thoughts in rein
to guard against the certain pain
of remembering one who was the bane
of my existence. So I fein
a cheerfulness that is inane.
Attempts at humor that in the main
go against sincerity’s grain
are voiced in vain.
They do not light a shrouded brain.
They do not stop the constant rain.

The prompt today is grainy.
