Halloween Tales, for the Three Things Challenge

Halloween Tales

Halloween love stories are not so very thrillin,’
for it’s not  romantic to hook up with a villain.
Monsters, ogres, ghosts and goblins don’t excel at lovin’.
Nor do witches have much use for it within their coven.
And so you’ll find that Halloween tells a different story
still filled with thrills that are more gruesome and more gory.

Prompts for the Three Things Challenge are: Monster, Ogre and Villain

Advice to Folks in High Places for the 3 Things Challenge

Advice to Folks in High Places

Of course, coarse words might prove a curse,
but words that weave a lie are worse.
So don’t use utterances truthless
as terrifying as they’re ruthless.

The Three Things Challenge asked us to include three words: COURSE COARSE CURSE

Word Choice for The Three Things Challenge

Word Choice

Poetry’s got metaphors, similes and rhyme,
and a bit of meter to make it sound sublime.
But prose has plot and conflict, and compared to verse
is of course much longer whereas poetry’s more terse.
But either genre that you choose, for sure you can’t go wrong.
A book of prose or poems is really good to have along
in waiting rooms or buses, on airplanes or on trains.
They fill in time for shut-ins in times of snow or rains.
In fact, to entertain you or to cancel out your woes
there is nothing better than poetry or prose!

For the Three Things Challenge, the prompt words are: Poetry, Prose and Verse

“Coup d’état” For the Three Things Challenge 141, Aug 3, 2025

Coup d’état

Build up all your borders. Put truth behind a scrim.
Remove all your immigrants. Trim and trim and trim.
Box up all your freedoms and lock them safe away.
Amend the 10 Commandments to “Ye shall not be gay.”
Dumb down all our children to increase control
so you can assure that you’ll retain control.
Tear apart two hundred fifty years of “free”
to put into your control what once was liberty.
Subjugate your citizens and say it is God’s will.
Then provide the Kool-Aid to see if they will swill.

Prompt words for the Three Things Challenge are: BORDER, TRIM, BOX

Ode to a Rotund Robin for 3 Things Challenge

Ode to a Rotund Robin

You alight, to peck and swallow.
In my bird feeder, you wallow—

driving other birds away
to gorge yourself both night and day.
Now as you struggle to arise,
spreading your wings up to the skies,
watching your labored ascent,
I raise the question of your descent.
Have you reckoned on your girth
in planning for your fall to earth?

For the Three Things Challenge the prompt words are : Alight, descent, raise. Image thanks to Unsplash.

Adventures in Walking, For the 3 Things Challenge, Sept 17, 2024

Adventures in Walking

Wobbling in on three-inch heels,
I cringed and swayed and wobbled.
They were the strangest sort of shoes
that cobblers ever cobbled!

When they brought in a second pair,
I couldn’t help but shudder.
I couldn’t walk in the first pair.
Why would I want anudder?

For the Three Things Challenge, the words are: Cringe, Shudder, Wobble
