This little woodpecker wakes me up most mornings, pecking away 80 feet or more up one of my palm trees. This morning it brought a gift by bringing my attention to these beautiful palm blossoms that I usually only notice floating in my pool.

What a cute little woodpecker. I hear them often, but I rarely see them. Good photo, too!

He was so high up that I couldn’t really see him in the camera lens, but could when I looked through my glasses. He kept ducking around behind the tree whenever I’d get focused. Finally I drew the lens back a bit and captured him, then cropped. I hear him every day, tapping loudly enough to clue me in to his location, which is usually in the same spot in the same tree.

Since he is a regular guest in your home, I think it’s better to give him a name. What do you say?

Woody is too obvious. What should I name him? He’s always as high up in the highest tree that he can be, usually comes in the morning, he is dependable, a bit noisy with his knock knock knocking…What name would suit him/her?

From what you have described, I think Woody Loud Pecker suits nice to him 🙂
