How’s It Going?
Whether I’m going near or far,
my choice of travel is always car.
I like to go at my own pace,
to break away from life’s mad race,
to take that road that leads to “where?”
and see what they are keeping there.
At roadside diners to share a yarn.
To investigate that leaning barn.
A tour or cruise or packaged deal
does not account for how I feel.
They’re too much like our daily life––
alarm clocks, deadlines, schedules, strife.
Serendipity is what sates
while schedule just regulates.
In short, when going over yonder,
I prefer to merely wander.
n response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Trains, Planes, and Automobiles.”You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, or car? (Or something else entirely — bike? Hot air balloon?)
I love small towns and all the nice things in them … but not necessary when trying to get from point A to point B before dark 🙂 The diners are the BEST part of those trips. And those “treasure barns” where you must might find something you’ve always wanted …

Excellent, a mirror of my own thoughts.

I like this post. I have some fond memories of earlier in my marriage, before the kids came along, of having a destination in mind, but not with a rigid route or timetable. Of course once this meant we couldn’t find a hotel and I became super grouchy. Still fun though.

I bet ! Even I prefer our SUV when it comes to travel as it is we both are road trip lovers and freak out while discovering local food and handicrafts of the towns we cross.

You have to travel with someone who has your own concept of travel. My husband and I used to stop and collect art material as we travelled: downed trees, rocks, etc.

I’m with you. Planes are uncomfortable. You can stretch out in your car, or just stop if you feel too grumpy. I love to wander, too.

Just reading this now (deleting old emails). Very persuasive!
