Genie-Us

The Prompt–Generous Genies: Remember those lovely genies who grant wishes? Well, you’re one and you’ve just been emancipated from your restrictive lamp. You can give your three wishes to whomever you want. Who do you give your three wishes to, and why?

I would give my three wishes to Raif Badawi in hopes that he would know how to use them to first free himself and then to free the people of his country from oppression and perhaps use the third to end the reign of terror of Isis. Since Mark Aldrich (in his blog) started publicizing the course of Raif’s life in prison and his sentencing to 1,000 lashes for simply stating his beliefs, this young man has been much in my thoughts.  It seems to me that he might be better equipped than the world’s western leaders to figure out a solution to the threats we all feel, but certainly not as personally as he does.

WhatsApp Doc?

WhatsApp Doc? (Three Years Hence)

I must admit three years ago,
my blog was going rather slow.
I labored hours for paltry views.
My “follows” came by ones or twos.

I thought that if I never bored,
I’d be the blog that all adored.
The world would wind up at my door
begging me for even more!

I wrote about what piqued my interest
without ever joining “Pinterest;”
and when it came to using “Twitter,”
I must admit, I was a quitter.

The fact that I’ve attained no fame?
I only have myself to blame.
With “Instagram” beyond my grasp,
my social chain has no real clasp.

I thought my blog was doing fine,
though I’d not heard about the “Vine.”
I fear I was a “Snapchat” dunce.
“Tumbir?” I’d heard it mentioned once.

“MeetMe,” “ Omegie,” “Skout” or “Tinder?”
These sites to meet the other gender
simply were beyond my ken.
(I wasn’t very savvy then.)

I did not “Whisper,” but only talked.
When it came to “Yik Yak,” this girl balked.
Since my chats did not have any “Snap.”
No need for “Burn Note” as an app.

I was, I fear, real out of it.
Somehow, I did not seem to fit.
I did not find such apps amusing.
These sites I merely found confusing.

Instead, I chose to merely blog.
Like rolling off of any log,
I found it easier to do––
to merely stage a minor coup.

And that is why I still plod on.
Why even now I have not gone
viral on the Internet
or become a global pet.

The followers I have, I love.
They fit as well as any glove.
I read them and they read me,
existing symbiotically.

So this is how we’ve all gone on––
sending thoughts from here to yon––
forming friendships as we go,
even though we’re sort of slow!

This blog is dedicated to all of the wonderful bloggers and other viewers I’ve met over the past three years as well as old friends who have stuck with me.  You’ve fueled my world!!
Thanks to Common Sense Media for cluing me in to some of these apps and sites formerly unknown to me.

The Prompt: Ebb and Flow–Our blogs morph over time, as interests shift and life happens. Write a post for your blog — but three years in the future.

Traveling Troupe of Players (When Things Go Worse)

Traveling Troupe of Players
(When Things Go Worse)

When you show up to rehearse
remembering neither word nor verse,
it does no good to rave and curse,
to wring your hands and throw your purse;
for though your cast mates might grow terse,
just remember, it could be worse.
You could be riding in a hearse!
