One of the things I gave thanks for today was this gorgeous new hibiscus growing right outside my kitchen door.  You can see its size in comparison to my hand. It will enlarge if you click on it:

      I know, Helene. That bloom is still vibrant. Lifts my spirits every time I walk out my door and there is usually at least one new one a day. This is a new one just planted before I left for two months, so very good of it to bloom the day I got home.

      You are so demanding, but I forgive a fellow hibiscus lover. I’ll send you a larger view. I must have cropped after I resized it. I actually photographed it at 2575X2696 so can send it to you any size you want up to approx 36 inches by 38 inches. That will take 2.5 mb, though, and I’m quickly filling up my blog so don’t save anything higher than at 1000 pixels on the longest side. Give me your email address and I’ll email it to you at the size allowable by your server. No, I won’t ask you to send me money in Nigeria!

        Demanding? Moi?? Surely not? 😉

        I completely understand the storage/size issue for WP, i may need to start doing likewise, or cough up for more storage 🙂

        My email is my blogname + outlook.com and the at thingy. 🙂 and the server takes anything, but save it to as small a Kb size as you like/can for transfer/upload time. 😉

        These days cameras store jpgs at 300 dpi – saving them as 72 dpi vastly reduces the image MB’s but sill looks fine for a computer screen. 🙂

        I suppose your not going to be giving me a great deal on viagra either?? 😀

          Nope. Viagra seems a waste. All you do is blog, anyway! If I send you photos at the size you request it will be a smaller size than it is on my blog, so why send it??? Or are you saying you want higher dpi? For publication in print I usually do smaller size and larger dpi. Actually, I get all this technical stuff mixed up. It enters my head and just wanders around and gets lost.

            The size issue for me ( different issue to viagra!) 😉 is just about how it appears on my screen.

            Saving a 300 dpi back to a 72 dpi should make the image appear 4 times larger ( I think – i need to confirm that).

            When you save a jpg through a photo edit program though, it actually reduces the Mb siize but keeps the basic data needed to show the same sized image on the screen.

            There is a lot of unnecessary data ( loads of zeros filled in for btye size – technical stuff!). in the original image.

            You should be able to store a 5MB image from a camera down to a 1-2 MB file size without losing the size or appearance quality. Perhaps more?

            I should do a little research and do a post as lots of people would have storage problems i’m thinking?

              I take photos at a very high resolution and size, then reduce to 72 dpi and 1000 pixels for my blog. This takes the size from 5 mg to 420 K, depending on amount of editing. When I send photos in to the paper or for books, I increase them to 300 dpi’s which is a better resolution for printing. The photo I sent you should be able to increase up to 10X14, depending on the cropping. The largest side 14 inches. If I send it to you full size, you can make a flower pinup of it at 42 inches!!! So tell me.. whaddayawant?? Better resolution or bigger size? Or are you just pulling my chain?

              Ha. Haven’t done my blog yet. For some reason the prompt words just made me sad today. Their interplay is too obvious. Perhaps I need a drink to get me on a different track, but gin and tonic in the morning was just too naughty. It’s 3:30 now. Closer to toddy time.

      What a lovely image to be identified with. I’m honored!!! Lilacs were my sister’s favorite flower when we were growing up in South Dakota. Not many flowers there except for sweet clover, alfalfa , hedges and ones planted by my mom.
