Orange Blossom, FOTD Dec 8, 2018

When I saw Gina’s peeled orange with sections removed, I had to stay her hand until I could get this shot. Doesn’t it look like a gorgeous tropical flower?

WordPress Has Gone Crazy!!!!
Is anyone else finding it impossible to post galleries of photos and to keep them in order? My editing page also keeps going crazy, crunching everything up in a very tiny space and leaving a huge space in the middle, then superimposing things on top of each other. I’ve started three different posts and the same thing keeps happening. Anyone else have the same problem?
Early Morning Matins
5:30 A.M. Early Morning Matins
Her imperious demands
slice the morning air.
I’ve only had three hours of sleep.
She doesn’t seem to care.
The young cats all wait patiently.
The dogs are still abed,
but the old cat knows her wants,
and she wants to be fed!
Church bells rise up from the town,
the priest’s demanding voice
calls the village folks to church
and they have little choice
but to go to laud the virgin,
for this is her holy week.
Old women crawl upon their knees,
her miracles to seek.
Dark morning air is quiet now,
the people in their pews,
the priest abandoning megaphone
to disperse his news.
The old cat, too, falls silent,
for she knows well her mater.
If I haven’t catered to her wails
by now, I’ll feed her later!!!

This is the shrine to the Virgin of Guadalupe that the women were constructing in the hotel where we went for breakfast in Acapulco. Every night, we saw processions carrying their virgins to the church to be blessed. This is the twelve-day celebration to the Virgin that is practiced all over Mexico every December and what the very early church bells were about this morning. December 12th is her day and it is a bank holiday in Mexico. Five days to go.

Safe Perch

I tried to capture this fellow in this pose several times but he’d flown away by the time I got my camera out. This morning he granted me the favor of a last visit and stood still long enough for me to capture this shot and a number of others—first a few of his mate, whom he replaced when she flew away—and then of him. I’m finally home. There is no place like it!!!
Acapulco

Gina, Gloria, Patricia, Sandy, Harriet, Judy D-B.(with hand raised.) Seated: Glenda and Judy Reeves.
Here is a short piece Sandy Olson wrote the first morning of our retreat to the prompt, “Foreign Countries.” I thought it might give you a bit of the flavor of our writing retreat. There were eight of us staying in Gloria’s son’s house in Acapulco. He has a design business that designs and builds theme restaurants for Disneylands and Disneyworlds all over the world, thus the colorful and art-filled nature of his vacation home. more photos to follow. Here is what Sandra wrote:
Gathering this morning with coffee—slowly—first Harriet, then me, then Gina, sitting outside on chairs in the grass. Then the others, one by one.
What are we—not a covey of quail, pride of lions, murmuration of starlings, herd of water buffalo—we are writers, dedicated to the muse, brought together, a distinct subspecies of humankind. Seekers. Watchers and scribes. We look like we’re having an inconsequential conversation this morning but we’re visiting and exploring each others’ foreign country and our own as well.
“I’m in my own foreign country.”
Temper, Temper
Temper, Temper
Her emotional last eruption caused such a giant rift
that she could not fill it, however large the gift.
A brand new Maserati did not curb his ire.
He still remembered well the smoke, the spewing of the fire.
She bought him a new pitching wedge, an iron and a putter,
but still it didn’t lessen his memory of her sputter.
Her spewing and her venting and that final fiery blast
blew him out the door and consigned her to the past.
The prompt words today are driver, eruption and gift.
