It took an incredible amount of research for Bob to find the name of this flower, but by Jove, I think he did it. Plaudits to LWBUT’s Flower Identification Service!!!!
For Cee’s FOTD Challenge.
Here is a better shot of more of the plant… for Bob!

I believe it’s a Common Centaury (named after the Centaur) or Centaurium erythraea to be precise. 🙂 A member of the Gentian family.

It is very pretty!

Bob, the leaves seem very different and this flower has fuller petals and little spurs on the end of the filaments. They also were more of a bushy or taller twiggy plant and it looks like gentians grow closer to the ground. I’m willing to be convinced, however. Thanks, as always, for your research.

Here’s another shot: http://floraofgibraltar.myspecies.info/file-colorboxed/2918
The Centaury are up to 20 Inches high and the flowers are about an inch across – sound right??
Do those leaves have a long middle point and two small points on the side??

Bob, I’ve added another shot of the flower to the original post. As you can see, it’ a good distance off the ground on more of a bush or tree-like plant. Could it be a fruit tree blossom? Very large dark leaves.

Hmmmm… unlikely to be the Centaury then! I still think there is a relation though?
Working on it! 😉

Bob, this one was farther off the ground in a bush-like plant. After this, I will take a closeup and then back off so you can see the size in relation to its environment. These closeups make it hard on you as you have no frame of reference re/ what the entire plant looks like. Makes for a pretty photo though! I hope you enjoy this because it is a lot of work and I certainly appreciate but don’t expect it.

OK – Finally got it (“This time Fer Sure!!” – a la Rocky and Bullwinkle) 🙂
It’s a species of peregina or Jatropha integerrima – i was WAY off before!! Apparently it is a member of the Spurge family!? (Euphorbiaceae)
No need to thank me – it was a matter of pride this time! 😉
I can hold my cape high again!
