Guest Blog: Judy’s at the Beach!

Good evening, folks, ForgottenMan here posting for Judy. She’s at the beach (Buscerías, Nayarit) with a friend, but with no/limited wi-fi. She was able to send me these seven photos of her time there so far (using precious cellular phone data). So, not to worry – she’ll be back when she gets the internet stuff sorted out. Meanwhile, hope y’all enjoy the pics. (Y’all know you can click on a pic to see a bigger version, right?)

Night and Day, For Wordle 629

Night and Day

What sleights of hand our bored gods play,
meandering at end of day,
tricking out our daylight world
with creeping shadows  they’ve unfurled,
plunging us in darkness that
sends in the dog but draws the cat
out to wander hill and hollow
where no human dares to follow.
The timorous mouse must then give pause
lest it fall victim to its claws.

Beam of moon that lights the way
poor substitute for light of day.
The ship of night must trim its sail
lest it lists within the gale
that joins the dark to forge the din
that further serves to box us in.
Odd nature, thus, a puzzle makes.
With one hand gives, the other takes.
Mere mortal quakes within his bed,
prays for calm daylight in its stead.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday Prompt: Clown

Here is the lithograph I based my poem on:

Pablo Picasso

And here is my poem:

On Picasso’s Imaginary Self-Portrait

Is it conceit or self-knowledge
that makes you paint yourself
in the ruffed collar
of Shakespeare
or a clown?

Satyr, young at heart,
your merry countenance
masks darker moods and behaviors,
the bright pigments
hiding a more somber undercoat.

Picasso,
your children
and your mistresses
might paint you as master:
stern, egotistical,
but always with the backlit inspiration
of genius.
Yet, old goat,
you paint yourself a clown.

For Linda’s SoCS prompt “clown”.
