About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Garden and Fountain: FOTD Sept 17, 2023

I found this photo from the past when I was looking for photos for my “Running Away” post just posted. It’s not of my lower garden as it was taken near the pool, but I love this shot so decided to share it for Cee’s Flower of the Day as there are a few flowers in it. This sculpture was actually a fountain. The water fell from the shell in her hands down into the pool. Unfortunately, a worker knocked it off into the pool and it broke into too many pieces to be fixable. I gave its original artist money in advance to make me another, but never heard from him again. Sad, as it was one of my favorite sculptures.

And for another reason I run away to the garden and/or hammocks, go HERE

Twilight Zone!!!

So weird!!! I have not heard one cohete (bottle rocket) or seen one firework in three days and it is Independencia! There should have been hundreds of explosions by now.  I’ve never known a day without at least one and usually they would have been happening for days before September 16.  Nor did I hear any church bells this morning. What is going on?

The Lost Blogger Attempts Fibbing Friday, Sept. 15, 2023

1. Have a break :  What one sumo wrestler said to another before jumping, full weight, on his leg.
2. You’re never alone with a strand : What the keeper said to the Hawaiian lady wearing a lei as he advised her to take it off before she entered the apiary.
3. Snap! Crackle! Pop! The answer the sumo wrestler’s body made to the statement of the sumo wrestler in line 1.
4. The Ultimate Driving Machine:  What other golfers call  Jack Nicklaus.
5. Don’t leave home without it:  The front door key.
6. Have it your way. The final retort of the loser in a marital disagreement
7. Good to the last drop:  Slogan inscribed on the side of a nuclear bomb.
8. Hello Moto: What the one-year-old birthday boy said as he opened his first Hot Wheel gift.
9. Taste the rainbow. What the rain says to the earth just as the sun comes out as it is departing.
10. Because you’re worth it. My reassurance uttered mentally to my conscience each time I buy a new piece of art knowing I have no place left to hang it!

Semi-Cold Turkey: Bird of the Week

These fellows seem very at ease wandering through the town of Sheridan, Wyoming, this summer during the hottest week of the year. Here they stroll through the shade of my friend Duffy’s yard. Definitely not camera-shy. They were about as Cold Turkey as they could be during this snap when daily temperatures reached 110 degrees!

A friend sent me a number of great quotes about the state of our world right now, and I found these two to be especially pertinent. (Thanks, Joan!)
