I love what variety and artistic surprises nature has to offer when we look down around us.

Making An Impression
I think the time has come for me to render this confession.
I simply am no good at all at making an impression.
My hair is light, my skin is pale, I’m hard to see at all.
The only slight impressions I make are when I fall!

Toxic little rumors and poisonous little lies
circumvent veracity and cloak it in disguise,
poisoning perception, holding truth at bay,
obscuring what is truth in favor of hearsay.
“Toxic” was one of the last WordPress prompts and although it was less than a year ago that I ran this response, I think it warrants repetition. I fear we’ve all been driven to toxicity by the preponderance of lies told by our leaders as well as on the internet. Even those of us who do not know we lie have fallen victim to this toxicity by reblogging and repeating on Facebook and Twitter facts we have not verified. I’ve been guilty of this as well. I’m trying to be more careful.
I wish every teacher and every parent and every politician could read this essay on bullying and that its message would trickle down to all they influence. Be sure to read the comments for a surprise!!!!

I used to be a teacher. For many years, I was one of those people charged with keeping our children educated, safe, confident and skilled. One of the many charges that I took so seriously during those years was the charge to prevent children from bullying each other.
I was a fifth grade teacher. My students were ten and eleven years old. I was told that if they bullied each other, part of the fault was mine.
I understood. My classroom spent time every single day talking about how to interact with civility, with kindness, with generosity. I remember talking to them about the fact that they did NOT have to be friends. They did NOT have to like each other.
“But, here’s the thing,” I would tell them, “You are all members of this very same classroom community. You must treat each other with respect and care. If you…

This type of Kewpie doll was often used as a prize in traveling carnivals in the fifties and early sixties. They were celluloid and very brittle and crushable. I loved them!!! These photos are in response to LWBUT’s comment on This blog entry of mine.

It was Duckie’s niece Hummie who first christened him “Duck,” when she was too little to pronounce “Doug.” I complicated the matter by calling him Duckie and since then, Ducks seem to have flocked into his life. From me, from our friends Gloria, Patty and Judy (posthumously) from another friend Nancy and from his friend Ann. Now, as you can see, he is being kept busy keeping his ducks in a row. You might recognize Little Duck of past blogging fame in this lineup.
