Cruel Nature

I took this lovely little oriole away from the cat thinking it was still alive, but ten minutes later, I haven’t been able to resuscitate it. So so sad. Spending more time in nature can be both a blessing and a heartache. Realizing the mixed natures of both society as a whole and those we love is the same. I had just fed the cat, so she could not have been hungry. It is hard to accept killing for the pure pleasure of it…or that  this tendency  is in the nature of many aspects of nature, to one degree or another.

Just before this happened, I was informed that I’d been kicked off Facebook for going against community standards. I can’t help but wonder if there is a connection between the two. Your guess is as good as mine.

Aha, this message just arrived on email:

We reviewed your account and found that it does follow our Community Standards on account integrity. We’re sorry you couldn’t use Facebook while your account was suspended. Sometimes we need to take precautions to help keep everyone on Facebook safe.

Your guess is as good as mine regarding whether someone reported my posts. What do you think? This is one post that won’t go on Facebook, so as you can see, I’m already censoring myself.

Animal Nature: Sunday Whirl Wordle 563

Animal Nature

The spirit of a hollow moon slides sideways under cover
through a crack in heavy clouds that spread apart to hover.
An owl soars by on silent wings to seek his midnight feast,
the power of moonlit talons unleashed on tiny beast.
Another sacred life is sacrificed for hunger’s sake.
It’s all in nature’s plan, and yet I feel the mouse’s ache.

For the Sunday Whirl Wordle 563 the words are: crack sideways covers feast ache power hollow spirits sacred owl lit heavy. Photos by jdb. Mosaic by Mazinka Rutherford, La Manzanilla, Mexico.

Interesting Objects: Nature’s Art

The first tiny sculpture  of a bear attached to a branch of driftwood is exactly as I found it on a branch on the beach. I haven’t colored or shaped it in any manner. Nature’s sculpture. The second photo is of a lamp made of elements found in nature by my husband, Bob Brown. The shade of handmade paper made from tree bark and liana was made by me.

No Peaceful Kingdom

No Peaceful Kingdom

The dogs are in the backyard where they don’t molest the cats.
The cats are in the front yard where they monitor the bats
but do not dine on birds because the birds have given up
and all moved to the back yard where the young cats never sup.

The younger cats stay outside and the old cat lives within
and should the outside cats ever escape from where they’ve been,
when they’re inside, they’re  bullies and steal her food and tease her.
Although, since I can’t find a type of cat food that will please her,

it’s no problem for the old cat, yet those cats are getting fat
while every day there seems to be less of the older cat.
True, the older cat is crabby and swats the young cats first,
so it’s hard for me determining which cat is the worst.

I’m tired of these war zones. I wish they’d coexist,
and I wish that I could simply tell them to desist.
Yet with man and other animals, more often you will find
they can’t exist in harmony with those who aren’t their kind.

Annie the crabby cat woke me up before Ragtag was online today, so they get their own individually prompted poem.  Their prompt was “harmony.” Here’ their link if you want to play along:  https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2018/12/23/rdp-sundayharmony/
