Picking Your Pieces

Invest in possibilities and bifurcate your worries.
Soon enough these balmy days will change to winter’s flurries.
But why let future problems intercede today?
Best enjoy the present and put future woes away.

Being in a smaller pond makes you a bigger fish,
so whatever your situation, exercise your swish
and live your life with flair and joy. Wring all the zest from life.
It does no good to drown yourself in thoughts of gloom and strife.

Sometimes I find that in this life I get what I expect,
so when life hands you troubles, why don’t you just object
and turn those woes to prospects and insist on being chipper?
Why choose to be a pessimist when optimism’s hipper?

You might call me a dreamer, but that’s okay with me.
Why be imprisoned by your doubts when you could be free?
Life needn’t be a puzzle. It can be a quest.
Pick out the parts that you prefer and throw away the rest.

The prompt for My Vivid Blog today was “Flurries.”

It’s Not That Time of Year Unless. . .

In my family, after the tree was trimmed, the outside lights were up and that inedible Xmas candy was in the candy dish, there was just one thing that signaled Christmas: the yearly jigsaw puzzle set out on the card table that my sister and I put together but that no one could resist helping out with.  There was always that last missing piece that eventually we found on the floor under the nearby sofa or in the dog dish or someone’s pants cuff.

Last year my friends Patty and Marti and I went to my sister Patti’s house in Phoenix for Xmas and of course took a jigsaw puzzle along.  My brother-in-law Jim and the across-the-street neighbor got addicted, and we could hardly elbow our way into the action once they got started. Under strict instructions to finish it before Xmas dinner, when the counter space would be needed, we accomplished the task, with Patty doing the honors and fitting in the last piece.  It was a fun one.  What’s up this year?

Composing Myself

Composing Myself

The Prompt: A Brand New You, Effective Tomorrow––Tomorrow you get to become anyone in the world that you wish. Who are you? You can choose to be anyone alive today, or someone gone long ago. If you decide to stay “you” share your rationale.

How could I choose to become another when I’m still trying to become myself?  Start all over?  I don’t think so.  Every person is a puzzle bent on solving itself.  Perhaps for some the puzzle comes fully assembled, but if so, they are people I’ve never met.  Why would I want to begin a new puzzle before the one I’ve started is completed?  Finish the job, I say.

Perhaps in another life the chance to construct a new life will be provided, but in this life, we are given only one life to solve.  No one knows the reason why this life is not perfect from the offset. That puzzle is one for philosophers to solve.  In the meantime, I  am busy enough figuring out what goes where today and in my own life. I’ll leave the assembling and breakdown and reassembly of the world at large to others.
