How Now. . . .?

After a fascinating Skype conversation about super-cooled water with Forgottenman, I settled down to watch an interview on Youtube that he’d recommended and evidently fell asleep, because my next Skype comment an hour later was :

“I just woke up thinking, How now, ground round?”

I hadn’t been drinking or reading old cookbooks. I wonder by what twisted route my mind came to relay that message to me? Actually, a few hours after writing this, I decided to try to write a poem or short prose piece that made use of the line and suddenly realized that in the dream, the line was actually, “How now, ground cow?  My first thought upon awakening was, “Oh..that should be ‘How now, ground round?”  But actually, now that I think of it, I like the dream’s version better. And since no one has answered my challenge, I guess I’ll try to do it myself.  I understand your hesitation. Too weird, huh? (Since I wrote this, two people actually have answered the challenge. See their poems below in comments.)

At any rate, I challenge any witty writers out there to come up with a poem or short prose piece that begins or ends with one of those two lines.

Lonely Artist Covid Art Challenge #6: Cake and Gingerbread House by Roberta Cheadle

You’ll need to enlarge the photos to see the stories told by this cake and gingerbread house constructed by Roberta Cheadle. for the Lonely Artist Covid-19 Challenge.

Here are Robbie’s explanations of her Lonely Artist Covid-19 contribution:

I have attached two pictures of my Covid-19 twisted nursery rhyme cake—The young woman who lived in a shoe.

I’ve also attached a picture of my Covid-19 twisted fairy tale gingerbread house—The witch hides from Hansel and Gretel who are both vectors for Covid-19.

I love Robbie’s originality. What alternative art form can you find to express your Covid experience? Music? Poetry? A story? An original Mask? A costume?  A video? A recipe? A painting or sculpture? I think one friend is going to make a piece of jewelry. Use your imagination.

Lonely Artist Covid Art Challenge: Jean Mulleneaux (Artist # 3)

Jeannie did a great job of using all of the different objects presented to artists to use in the challenge. The mysterious rings that none of us knew the purpose for, bottle caps, wine corks, joker card, cardboard carton and buttons. If making this playful wall art collage didn’t cheer her up in her isolation, I don’t know what would. Hopefully, she’ll add some notes about her process in the comments.

(Click on photos below to enlarge)

To see the original challenge as well as links to the work of other artists who have sent in their photos of how they met the challenge, go HERE.   If you want to join in, you need not start with the objects we started with. Choose your own media. Want to bake a Lonely Artist Covid cake? Great. Write a poem? Paint a painting? Do a mural? Make an intriguing mask? Snap a photo? Do a video? Sing a song? Do a dance? All are welcome. Just link your contribution via a link to this blog or to the link to the original challenge above.

Nosy Questions #2

Version 2

Nosy Questions #2, Mar 25, 2020

I made up these questions over two months ago, right after I posted my first Nosy Questions Challenge, then promptly misfiled and lost them . Then tonight, looking for a video to watch, I found them in my video file. So, fate was saving them for this time when we all have a lot of time on our hands as well as a time when we are isolated and need to reach out. So here goes. Try to answer fully and to provide us with the story of your life. And remember, the story is in the details. If you wish, feel free to publish photos to go with your answers.

  1. Tell us how you met your partner. Please be specific in telling your tale.
  2. What is your most romantic experience, again with details?
  3. What is the most extravagant purchase you’ve ever made, and why did you buy it?
  4. What is your favorite swear word or expression, and when are you most likely to use it?
  5. What is your favorite kind of pie? With or without ice cream?
  6. While we’re on the subject, what is your favorite ice cream, and where did you last eat it?
  7. Who is your most unique friend and why? (May be someone from the past.)
  8. What is your most irritating habit?
  9. Who was your favorite teacher and why?
  10. Do you like being alone and if so, what would you probably be doing?
  11. What is the most outlandish thing you’ve ever done?
  12. What superstition do you always follow?
  13. What famous person or animal have you met? Tell us about the meeting.

Please put your answers on your blog and put a link to your blog in the comments below. If you don’t have a blog, copy the questions and your answers in the comments section.

Thanks for playing along. I can’t wait to hear your stories.
