The Kiss-Off

The Kiss-Off

This incessant waiting clearly is the pits.
Frankly, I am tempted to say I call it quits.
I’ve been standing here for minutes when I’d much rather be seated,
and in spite of the tree’s canopy, I’m feeling rather heated.

The onus is on you, my friend, to tell me why we’re meeting.
You’ve used up your excuses and used up your entreating.
Friends do not do the things you do. They keep your confidences.
They do not carry tales. They come to their friends’ defenses.

You beg to meet just once again and then you show up late?
I rue the day I bonded with such a reprobate.
You have not won me over, in fact, without a doubt,
I fear our friendship’s over. Your test period’s run out!

words for today are canopy, onus, incessant and waiting.

Changes

Changes

All those natural places that soothe us with their peace,
their beauty and their silence offer us release
until some pugnacious tourist rips the scene apart,
instilling angst and turmoil where formerly was heart.

Word prompts for the day are pugnacious, tourist, natural and peace.

Luxuriating in Being Left

Luxuriating in Being Left

In retrospect the loss of you has turned into a gain.
I’m rejoicing in the comfort of not having to explain.
I can do just what I want to, every day and every hour.
I am a snool to no one. I do not cringe or cower.
I sleep in in the morning with no breakfast to prepare.
I can dress the way I want to, choose the length of my own hair.
When I go to bed at night, I spread out in the middle.
I’m cool as any cucumber, not bacon on a griddle.
I wish your new love well with you, but I’m fine as I am,
for it’s the truth that when you left, I didn’t give a damn!

Prompt words today are nacre, comfort, rejoice and explain. Snool is an additional word I may or may not use.  The definition of snool is: a cringing person, to cringe or cower, or the opposite: to reduce to submission, cow or bully. There is one extra word today because I also used yesterday’s word from on prompt site because it was published too late to be used yesterday.

Testing Fido

Testing Fido

This test is good in ascertaining
if your dog recalls his training
and, further, it is meant to see
the extent of his fidelity.
In a fire or in a quake,
what action is he bound to take?
Will he quiver, cower and shake,
lose his head and run or quake
or will adrenalin make him faster
to locate and to save his master?
I do not wish to amplify
where your canine’s faults might lie,
but in times of peril he must
justify his master’s trust.
Just leave a burger in a pan
to start a fire if you can.
Feign sleep and see if he reacts
by waking you or if he acts
in his own interest first, and eats
the burger before he retreats
to give you ample time and warning
to view the damage before morning!
Will frenzy beat out appetite?
Or will Fido choose to bite
the burger, and the hand that feeds him,
forsaking the one who needs him?

I know this is a horrible poem, but for once the prompts defeated me. I was going to junk it, but will post it as testimony to the fact I tried. Sort of. Prompt words today were ascertain, fidelity, amplify and frenzy.

Tsk, Tsk!!!!

Tsk, Tsk!!!

Though I applaud your intellect, your word-usage and clarity,
I’m taking steps to deal with your outlandish temerity.
Since I sincerely hold that obscure words should be panned,
hereby, I proclaim that such smug words will be banned.
So words like “impignorate”—found in no sane vocabulary
hereafter will be turned in to the lexicon constabulary!

Word prompts today are steps, temerity, impignorate and  proclaim

Midnight Bully

Midnight Bully

A constant aberration, it emerges in the night
to assert its domination, for it will have its bite.

It provokes me to assist it as I switch on the light,
and though I try hard to resist it,  I always lose the fight.

I wander down the hall and once the kitchen is in sight,
I make a beeline for the fridge as I bemoan my plight.

I am simply not to blame. It’s just my appetite
that draws me from my midnight bed to assert its right.

It is not my choice, for I have been true to my diet.
It’s my appetite that simply must get up and pie it!

Prompts for today are emerge, aberration, provoke and switch.

Happily, this is fiction, at least for the past three months, as I have been true to my diet for that long. 24 pounds as of today, but as you see, my subconscious and the prompt words conspired to take me down a naughty path creatively if not physically.

Bully

Bully

Of your leering face, I see just a flicker.
I see your eye rolling. I see your rude snicker.
In the course of our day, our paths often merge,
and when they do, I am forced to diverge.
You’re a living example of the term “faitour.”
You’re such a rude person—a buffoon and a baiter.
If I had to endorse a most likely bloke

to make a rude comment or tell a crude joke,
then it would be you—and from how you act,
I’ve no doubt at all you’d be proud of the fact!

Fore!!! (Ousted)

Fore!!! (Ousted)

He wasn’t fit, he wasn’t deft.
Of brainpower, he was bereft.
So it should have been a landslide loss
that demoted him from being boss,
but it seems that daftness is in vogue.
Too many voted for the rogue.
Yet when I heard, to my delight,
we’d been  delivered from four years’ blight,
I whooped my whoops and cried my cries.
No constant orange would greet my eyes
whenever I turned on the tube.
We’ve exorcized the bungling boob!

Prompt words today are delight, landslide and  deft.

Diversity

Diversity

The world’s based on diversity. If we were all the same,
we’d be the cause of our own problems. There’d be no one else to blame.
All of us would be prolific—equal in our fame.
We couldn’t tell our differences merely by our name.

We’d all be the same color and have the selfsame aims,
dance in the same manner and excel at the same games.
When we divulged our secrets, our friends would all be snoring,
for they’d all have the same ones which would make confession boring.

No beauty pageants, chess matches or battles of the bands.
No need to wander off to examine other lands.
If everyone were just the same, there’d be no competition.
Excellence would be extinct and no need for ambition.

There’d be no surprises, no extraordinary gifts.
No ups and downs in life. No depressions and no lifts.
Life would just be humdrum. How boring life would be
if nature hadn’t managed to create diversity!

A Culinary Manifesto

A Culinary Manifesto

I cannot overlook your incredible zeal
in polishing off the remains of your meal.
I surmise as you gobble up every comestible
that you are finding it very digestible.

The suspense that I felt as I chopped and sautéd it—
all of that angst that I felt as I made it—
seems unwarranted now, for it is amazing
how contented you seem to have been in your grazing.

You devoured the potatoes and chicken and peas.
You sopped up the gravy and licked all the cheese
from your plate before sucking the grease from your fingers.
And I see that your look of contentment still lingers.

Could that expectant gleam that I see in your eye
be because you have noticed the hot apple pie
that cools on the counter? I hereby assert
I’ll complete your seduction over dessert!

Word prompts today are suspense, surmise, zeal and amazing.
