You’ve probably all seen this very gracious editorial in The Star (Canada) that is a response to the recent visit of some Americans’ president, but just in case, I’m representing it here:
https://www.thestar.com/opinion/editorials/2018/06/12/dear-america-come-on-up-we-still-like-you.html
It shows that there are still some gracious, generous commentaries left in our charged-up world. And that the whole world doesn’t hate us for losing control of our country, somehow. Some of us are trying to get it back again. Bought but never sold!!!
Thanks for sharing that. I think it exemplifies true Canadian spirit and understanding. After all, we (Canadians) have (had) our share of embarrassing politicians!

We all have, but this one has to top them all.

I am glad to see this, too, and mortified by our extremely embarrassing president. Thank you, Canadians!

Thanks, Judy — I hadn’t seen this article, and am delighted to see that the good will of the people goes both ways. It’s not the American people who believe that Canada has abused the US (facts show that they pay us more in trade than we pay them) — just our “so-called leader.” Hopefully we will have better sense in 2020, and can rebuild our relationships then!

I am embarrassed, mortified, and angry. The article was great and on point. I am doing what I can in my small corner of the world. If that doesn’t work, I might be looking for real estate in your beautiful country! 🙂

Come to Ajijic. It’s lovely here. There are problems, but still so much humanity here and universal health care!!

As a Canadian, I was happy that you shared this. The American people’s views are not the same as the President’s. 🙂

Yes. Absolutely true. When I went to the dr. the other day to have my finger stitched up, first thing he asked me was whether I was a Trump supporter. Luckily I could say truthfully and heartily that I was not. I live in Mexico, by the way.. and of course he was Mexican! He did an excellent job and I’m typing with that finger now. The nail is almost completely black now but the finger is healed with no scar. Can’t say that the same will be true for our country.

Glad that your finger has healed. It will definitely take another administration on your side to heal what is happening.

I am so humiliated by our so-called president’s behavior. I feel like we should be apologizing to the whole world.

Just heartbreaking that this should happen. Unbelievable. First time I felt like this was when I saw the u.S. from the perspective of news from another country.. when I was in Australia..and there was so much anti-U.S. sentiment there. First time I realized our news was always slanted..but nothing compared to now. Nothing compares to lack of social conscience coupled with stupidity and crassness. Just unbelievable.

Great article – thanks for posting. We just returned from travelling through the U.S. for nearly six months and every bit of it was inspiring and welcoming. As a Canadian, we have always looked to the States as a big brother, recognizing that so much of what happens there affects us. The recent events made us wonder if we’d be able to return south next year. This article puts it in better perspective.

The majority of U.S. citizens feel even worse than you do as he’s the president. (But not ours.)
