Ash
Wood to ash and flesh to dust,
stone to sand and iron to rust.
Leather snaps and fabrics fray.
All things living must wear away.
What we seek to save, we save in vain.
Nature wipes out every gain,
and blessedly, also our pain.
For the dVerse Poets Quadrille prompt: Ash (44 words only)

I love your use of rhythm and rhyme here. It gives it an incantatory feel. This is the chant of old women gathered round a sacred fire. Glorious!

I was thinking of it as a chant when I wrote it, Sarah.

Judy – that last line is perfection. I think about this a lot, actually – how all of the anxiety and hurt and etc. ends with death.

Your conclusion, “All Things Must Pass,” is a favorite George Harrison song of mine. Your poem flows nicely down the page.
