About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

After 50 days of traveling, I was so excited to get home to a regular schedule–as real as my schedule ever is.  Mainly, I looked forward to being able to wake up and do my blog with no other obligations–free mornings in my own bed to write for as long as I wish.  But, alas, fate has other things in store for me, for although my visiting friend and my Acer computer connect fine to the internet, my Mac and my new iPhone will not connect to my router.  I’m afraid I picked up a virus in the airport–don’t know what else the problem could be.  So, again, I’m on this cumbersome PC  beast I have so many problems with.  I can’t post pictures, can’t figure out how to easily do the links. So, although it is wonderful to be back, I have to be careful not to let this one really big frustration rule the day.  I really do feel on edge.  I think today the prompt was psychic!!!

Traveler’s Log

Colorado was a bog
too much sog
airplane home, pet the dog
took a swim, like a frog
had some grog
tried to blog
Mac Air slipped a cog
off to the techie I must jog
once again, a rolling log

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “On the Edge.”  We all have things we need to do to keep an even keel. What’s yours?

Unless it’s imported from China, everything is home made in Mexico!  These lovingly handmade items were all snapped at the Dia de los Muertos celebration in Patzcuaro last year!

Perpetual Blog

Perpetual Blog

Posting blogs just never stops—
in restaurants or in coffee shops,
waiting in an airport line
or in a wine bar sipping wine.

When it comes to blogging, I’m not choosy.
In the pool or the Jacuzzi,
my computer on a tiny table,
I add to blogs if I am able.

I admit that I am prone
to posting while I’m on the phone.
In the kitchen while burning supper,
posting blogs can be an upper.

Often, when I’m traveling,
my sister’s patience unraveling
past midnight, when she wants to sleep–
as she lies there counting sheep,

I take my laptop to the loo
to do what I’m impelled to do–
tapping gently on the keys
with my computer on my knees.

But I must admit, when I’m alone,
my favorite way to post is prone.
Flat in bed, from toes to noggin,
is how I usually do my bloggin’.

What’s the strangest place from where you have posted a blog?

Clouds

Severe weather alerts make for some pretty spectacular skies.  All of these shots were made as we approached Denver yesterday. Of course the cloudburst occurred just as we were leaving the car to go into the restaurant, then abated, then came on with a vengeance when we exited two hours later. Makes me feel I have such influence in the universe! Streets and fields were flooded all the way to our hotel near the airport. Now I”m at my gate, ready to fly back to Mexico!! It will feel wonderful to stay in one spot for awhile.

Cee’s Oddball Photo Challenge, 2015, Week 23

IMG_0554 (1)

I don’t know why I was so fascinated by these solidified drips of syrup on the pitcher in the restaurant where I went for breakfast with my cousin Jayne and her daughter Sara, but I took six different shots. This was my favorite. Do I need to get a life?
Version 2

Jayne’s son David challenged her to use chopsticks at the hibachi restaurant we went to. Toward the end of the meal, she accepted the challenge.  I tried to show her how, but…

IMG_0503as you can see, she found a way all her own to conquer the sticks.  Where there’s a will, there is a way!

A Shift in Senses

If I could, I’d gladly surrender my sense of smell for an enhanced sense of hearing. The sense of smell gives me more pain than pleasure because of allergies to floral scents. Also, losing the sense of smell affects the ability to taste – the perfect diet!

Today’s WP Prompt: Super Sensitive – If you were forced to give up one sense, but gain super-sensitivity in another, which senses would you choose?

(I’m on the road without wi-fi, so I sent a cellphone text message to my proxy robot okcforgottenman to post this in my name. I’ll add more later when I get hotel wi-fi.)

Eat, Drink and be Merry

A picture is worth a thousand words, right?  So here is my essay on the topic:

Cee’s Which Way Challenge, Week 22:

The Road Goes Ever OnDSC01182 DSC01173 DSC01599 DSC01149
Rain dogged us for most of our trip and as we start out again tomorrow to drive to Cheyenne, it looks like more rain.  Unpleasant driving, but makes for some fabulous skies and often the vistas with the road curling into the distance seem almost mythical, creating an anticipation, as though we are driving into a mysterious future. Big Wheel Turning

I absolutey love Lydia’s answer to today’s prompt so I must reblog.

alotfromlydia's avatarA lot from Lydia

Almost a decade ago, one of my children wanted a pet hedgehog. (Don’t try this at home.) I don’t know where the idea originated, but she did all the research online, and presented her opening statement. I countered with a list of previous pets, all of which ended up in my care, and I didn’t want anymore responsibilities. She was relentless, my eight year old genius. I dismissed the case to be reopened at a later date hoping she’d forget. She didn’t forget. She saved her birthday and Christmas money. I capitulated, surrendering to her resolve. I regretted it every day for the three years that poor beast lived.

We had two giant breed dogs at the time, and the hedgehog could smell them. Hedgehogs do not typically bite, (that still doesn’t make them good pets), but fear made Otis a biter. Once he’d sink his long sharp fangs into…
