Hide-And-Go-Seek: Flower of the Day Challenge, 10/22/15

                                             Hide-And-Go-Seek

The rain started while we were watching an incredible Iranian film at the Lake Chapala Society.  When we emerged, the rain was a surprise, even though we’d been warned about the big tropical storm about to hit–a long arm of Hurricane Patricia that is predicted to arrive with full force at midnight tomorrow.  I have started to prepare–butane camp cooker, bottles of water freezing in the freezer, candles and oil lamps out, cooking food ahead as I’m about out of gas and I know I have a gas leak.  How could I use $200 worth of gas in three weeks?

Anyway, we decided to be kids and enjoy the block long walk to the car in the rain and were rewarded, when we ducked under cover of the little outside restaurant that was halfway to the gate of LCS, with a view of an incredible orchid tree.  (My name.  I don’t know what it is.)  An added bonus was that I was under the cover of the roof of the open air little restaurant and so I didn’t have to risk getting my lens wet.

It was only after I got home and started playing with the pictures that I spied the various little characters hidden in the flowers.  See if you can find them.

IMG_6938Can you find the koala bear?  Some may think he has more in common with a polar bear.

I have never seen such a profusion of flowers as on the road to Tapalpa.

For miles and miles, the fields are full of wildflowers.  These pictures were taken in October, when the flowers were at their height of bloom.

Heartleaf Ice Plant, nee Baby Sunrose, nee Red Apple Ice Plant

IMG_3280 IMG_3277I have loved ice plant ever since I first spied it in CA and brought cuttings back to my greenhouse room in Wyoming.  I have been known to pull off the hiway to pinch off a chain of ice plant.  The beach was another favorite gathering place.  Now I live surrounded by it–growing from planters, along sidewalks and crawling over pumice grinding stones hundreds of years old.

Heart of Zinnia with Fly and Spider Floss: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge, August 8, 2015

IMG_3274IMG_3271I sprinkled seed from an earlier zinnia plant over this plot of dirt left after I dug up a big cactus to transplant. My plans were to put a fish pond here, but I can’t bear to dig up the zinnias which have been blooming almost constantly since.  You’ve seen them at other stages, but this is what they look like now.  They are loving the rainy season!

IMG_3275I love the detail of the shadow in this closeup.
