Hibiscus: FOTD Dec 24, 2020

I stopped the car, parked and got out to take this photo of a stunning hibiscus.  Five minutes later, I was stopped at a stop light and a motorcycle ran into the back of my car!  I saw that he was trying to get his bike up and get on it, so I pulled over to the side of the road and got out to see the damage to my car. When I turned to see how the motorcyclist was doing, there were people from other cars grouped around him but he had turned his bike around and was getting ready to take off in the direction he’d come from–and away from me! I guess he was afraid he’d have to pay for repairs to my car. As it was, I just got in my car and drove away in the opposite direction–the direction I was going in the first place. Every little mark makes it easier to identify the back of my car in a parking lot!

Poinsettia, FOTD Dec 18 2020

This is my favorite color of poinsettia. There are 10 blooms on this bush outside my bedroom door where I can enjoy them every day.

Tabachine: Flower of the Day, Dec 9, 2020

This tabachine bush blooms year round and there is usually a new crop of butterflies to flutter around it. Most of the hummingbirds have defected to the neighbors’ hummingbird feeder pictured in my Thanksgiving photos, but a few still come visit this little tree which is in perfect view from my studio.

Empty House: FOTD, Dec 7, 2020

For those of you who saw this insect on a leaf on my blog yesterday, the mystery is here revealed. This is actually the shed outer skin of a cicada. Amazing, no? Right down to the hairs!!

New Hibiscus! FOTD Dec 6, 2020

I just bought this hibiscus today. I told the woman who owns the vivero I must pass every time I drive into San Juan Cosala that I have no problems with drugs and alcohol but that I’m addicted to plants! They always put the new hibiscus varieties along the road and I almost always fall. I had this one sitting in the kitchen and will plant it on Monday, but there must be enough light that it was still open at 11 PM. Here it is… my first red one, albeit the red is just around the edges. It is six inches across.
