Gypsy Dahlia: Flower of the Day, Oct. 16, 2016

img_7442

I love that one ultra-shy petal that hasn’t opened at all and the other three, like observers in a vaudeville hall waiting for Gypsy Rose Lee to remove her veil!

Faded Dahlia: Flower of the Day, Oct. 15, 2016

I had a number of shots I liked of dahlias in full bloom, but for some reason, this faded dahlia won out over them. There is something so 40’s about this photo—its limpness and faded chiffon colors.

Dahlia: Flower of the Day, Oct. 13, 2016

I went down to the studio to work, but instead got intrigued by the new flowers that have popped up during a time when I’ve been too busy to go down to enjoy them.  Most of the dahlias and zinnias are past their prime, but this one was still gorgeous.  I’ll do a macro of it tomorrow.

Silk Lotus: Flower of the Day, Oct 11, 2016

I love this lotus on the silk window panels of the Vietnamese restaurant where I met old friends Karen and Susan and Jay during my visit to St. Paul.

Water Hyacinths: Flower of the Day, Oct. 10, 2016

The water hyacinths are so thick on the surface of the lake right now that this night heron can actually perch or walk across them.
img_7217There don’t seem to be very many blooms right now, but you can make out a few in the photo below:

Calendula officinalis (Pot Marigolds) Flower of the Day, Oct. 9, 2016

img_4347

Mums or Marigolds? anglogermantranslations says they are marigolds.  I couldn’t decide which they were, so labelled them as mums.  What do you think?  I’m always willing to alter a misconception.  At any rate, when I think of October, I think of Homecoming corsages and that means mums, so in the spirit of autumn, I will dedicate this photo to chrysanthemums even if it is marigolds. After many votes either way, I received a comment from variegatus so scientific and thorough that I am changing the title of this post to Marigold.  Definitely marigold.  See that information below in the comments section, and if you want to view other flowers as well, see Cee’s and other flowers HERE.

Hydrangea: Flower of the Day Oct. 5, 2016

These look like fall leaves, but really are hydrangeas variously altered by the cold weather, I’d guess.  Taken at my niece Cintra’s home in St. Paul.

Little White Flower: Flower of the Day, Oct. 3, 2016

Innocuous, fragile and sparse.  I thought they were lovely close up.
