Vampire HibiscusIMG_6840Another shot taken on my after midnight photo shoot in the garden.  This one was taken with only a flashlight for illumination.  The richness combined with the deep red of the anthers  brought to mind another denizen of the night.

Nighttime Hibiscus: Flower of the Day 10/19/15

IMG_6839 Version 2I’ve never tried to take pictures of flowers at night before!!!  I took a flashlight and popped out the flash as well.  Kind of nippy out there in my nightgown, but it was so much fun!!!! I always thought hibiscus closed up at night, but here is proof they don’t! Tomorrow, I’ll show the color shots, but for some reason I preferred the black and whites.  Ghostlier, I guess.

IMG_6390I am constantly amazed by what happens as I zoom in on a flower.  There is an entire new world revealed at each stage of the zoom!  In this way, a flower is a good parallel to everything.  The closer we look, the more complex everything is revealed to be.  This is why I like poetry.  It is the microbiology of words.

Plumeria (Mixed Messages): Cee’s Flower of the Day, Oct. 16,2015

IMG_6246                                                            Plumeria (Mixed Messages)

How to honor the last three frangipani (plumeria) blooms on a tree doomed to the axe? This tree has grown to block the view, and for 14 years I’ve suffered from its scent that others find intoxicating.  Finally, weeks ago, I told  Pasiano it must go.  He hasn’t been swift in following requests.  I haven’t been swift in asking why.

“Brokedown” Zinnia: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge,10/13/15

“Brokedown” ZinniaIMG_6421I don’t know why this “brokedown” zinnia appeals to me so much, but it does.  It looks like it took a bite out of this little berry hanging over its shoulder a week or so ago and then just let it hang!

Crown of Thorns: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

IMG_6448I just removed a large bush of Crown of Thorns that was becoming a hazard in both my pool and the path that were on either side of it.  I took this last picture of the blooms before we did so.  This particular plant is lighter in color than others and acquires a richness close up, I think.
