Quiet: Flower of the Day 3/6/2016

UQB: Unidentified Quiet Blossom

I think this is some sort of nut tree and the closest I could find to the leaf shape was a cashew tree.  I found one picture that showed it with a star-shaped flower, but in other pictures, the petals were more rounded.  I think my friend told me this was an almond tree, but it definitely isn’t an almond.  Once again, if you recognize it, please educate me.

This non-assuming little flower deserved some extra attention. As with most things in nature, close up, it makes more of a statement.

Thanks to Steve Frowlne for identifying this flower found in my friend Carol Lopez’s garden.

Here is a bit more information about it, thanks to Wikipedia: Hibiscus schizopetalus is a species of Hibiscus native to tropical eastern Africa in Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique. Its common names include fringed rosemallow,[1] Japanese lantern, coral hibiscus, and spider hibiscus.

It couldn’t be further away from Cee’s tulip that is her flower of the day.  To see hers, go here:

Mum’s the Word?––Flower of the Day, Feb. 22, 2016

IMG_0133

Mum’s the Word?

The gift is nice, I must admit.  I really do adore it,
and yet there is one factor that prompts me to abhor it.
It might be a mum or on the other hand, a daisy––
and going back and forth between the two just drives me crazy.
I know it’s not a marigold and not a pink carnation,
but lack of knowing what it is gives rise to consternation!

Color Your World Fuchsia and Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Fuchsia

I had run down the street for two blocks in a long beach coverup quickly thrown over my nightgown when I heard the crazy rodeo parade approaching my house at 11 o’clock at night.  The night before it had gone on from about 7:30 to at least 2 a.m. when I went to bed.  I’d somehow missed it going by when I was dancing at Palapa Joe’s so I didn’t want to miss it tonight.  I was walking back home when I spied these little flowers and I kept bending lower to get them in more detail.  When I looked up I saw this BIG guy who must have been the cook in the palapa restaurant I was standing in front of, taking the picture.  He was sitting in a straight chair in the parking lot—probably out to catch a spare breeze as the night was still hot.  “You can see beauty in a single flower?” he asked me.  When I nodded my head and said, “Mmhmm,” he just smiled and nodded his head.  Such a nice little interchange and nice final human contact for the day.

More about my day will follow.

That’s Just Cheating! Flower of the Day, Jan 27, 2016

That’s Just Cheating!

IMG_2004 (1)

Yes, sure.  I’ve done a lot of playing around with this image but I don’t consider that cheating, do you?  So what could it be that I’ve done that is slightly unethical?

If it isn’t perfectly obvious from this unedited original shot,

then perhaps it will be in this closeup.  Honest, folks, I didn’t notice when I took the original shot.  I was working fast and just going up and down the street taking shots of flowers.  It wasn’t until I got into the eidting phase that I notice what was wrong with this particular bunch of flowers!!! Cee’s said it before. I need to slow down. Perhaps after the art walk!

Yellow!!!Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge Jan 13, 2016

                                                                              Yellow!!!

IMG_1011Finally!!!! I’ve been saving this one for this challenge for weeks now and keep bringing it up from my desktop.  I’ve never seen a yellow poinsettia before and think it probably changed from green to yellow to white or some other color, but I loved it at this stage!!  So glad to finally be able to use it.  I promise no more poinsettias for awhile.  Well, unless there’s a really neat one!!!  Backsliding already.
