This is the only photo of several I took of this hibiscus that has a wasp on it. I take it he sought to enhance the shot which was fine with me!

Hibiscus

This is the single hibiscus on its bush and my next blog posting may indicate why!

Obelisco
Did you know that red hibiscus (obelisco) leaves make a delicious drink called Jamaica that is very popular in Mexico?

Spanish Dancer at Midnight
The name of this variety of hibiscus really is Spanish Dancer! Another of my shots taken after midnight with the help of a flashlight. From this angle you can’t see the pinkish red at the center of the inside.

Vampire Hibiscus
Another shot taken on my after midnight photo shoot in the garden. This one was taken with only a flashlight for illumination. The richness combined with the deep red of the anthers brought to mind another denizen of the night.

I’ve never tried to take pictures of flowers at night before!!! I took a flashlight and popped out the flash as well. Kind of nippy out there in my nightgown, but it was so much fun!!!! I always thought hibiscus closed up at night, but here is proof they don’t! Tomorrow, I’ll show the color shots, but for some reason I preferred the black and whites. Ghostlier, I guess.

Bleached Hibiscus
I can’t compete with that deep red, Cee, so I’m going in the opposite direction. Here is an hibiscus with the color drained out of it. I would love to have one that was really this color! (Or lack of color.)
I was given this flower today so want to share it. See: http://ceenphotography.com/2015/10/07/flower-of-the-day-october-7-2015-hibiscus-for-judy/
Hibiscus: Faded Glory
Part of maintaining an interest in life is finding beauty in all of its stages–not just the budding and full bloom, but also in its slow relaxation towards the finish.
The interior of this lush hibiscus, long past its prime, reminds me of a messy bed with it’s bent and tumbled stamens and pollen spilled out over rumpled and twisted sheets. I can imagine the almost drunken pleasure of bees and other pollinators as they burrowed into the flower, creating this disorder!
