Hibiscus Flowers: FOTD Nov. 1, 2021

Yesterday I showed a photo of a hibiscus flower and said there were four different colors of flowers on the bush. Here is the proof of it. The last flower is the one I published yesterday as well. Amazing. I don’t think it is grafted. I just think this is this bush’s “thang.”

Remember the flower that vanished a few weeks ago between the time I first saw it and two hours later when I returned with the camera? This is the newest flower on that bush. Finally, my patience has been rewarded, but not my curiosity over where it could have vanished to in a back yard behind locked gates with only me there!

Zeroing in: Hibiscus, Flower of the Day, Apr 18, 2018

IMG_9486 copyIMG_9486My backyard had become a bit of a jungle.  The men came and trimmed the palms and cut the pistachio tree in the background of this photo way back.  Sort of sad right now, but really opened up the view of the lake. In this photo taken a couple of weeks ago, the tree furnishes a lush backdrop to the profiles of these twin hibiscuses.

Stages of Growth

(Click on first photo to enlarge all)

A bud one day, a flower in two days more. Watching everything grow so quickly during the rainy season brings the miracles of nature constantly to mind. The kittens of three months ago are now nearly cats.  The hibiscus of three days ago is now one more plaything strung out across the bedroom floor that is their playground. They bring in every one they find. I think they think they are little mice!

Hibiscus Chain

Just pulling one branch over so I could capture more blooms at a time created this seeming hibiscus lei.  Seven bloomed at one time. Riches.

Another Hibiscus: Flower of the Day, August 1, 2016

On the way home from the dentist today I slammed on my brakes, parked my car and got out to take this photo of this gorgeously colored hibiscus against a similarly-colored wall.  I just bought a new gold giant hibiscus plant today but now must go in search of this one.  I need to paint my house this color next time.  Love this hue!!!

Nighttime Hibiscus: Flower of the Day 10/19/15

IMG_6839 Version 2I’ve never tried to take pictures of flowers at night before!!!  I took a flashlight and popped out the flash as well.  Kind of nippy out there in my nightgown, but it was so much fun!!!! I always thought hibiscus closed up at night, but here is proof they don’t! Tomorrow, I’ll show the color shots, but for some reason I preferred the black and whites.  Ghostlier, I guess.

Hibiscus: Faded Glory (Cee’s Flower of the Day, 10/5/15)

                                                Hibiscus: Faded Glory

Part of maintaining an interest in life is finding beauty in all of its stages–not just the budding and full bloom, but also in its slow relaxation towards the finish.
IMG_5851 IMG_5853The interior of this lush hibiscus, long past its prime, reminds me of a messy bed with it’s bent and tumbled stamens and pollen spilled out over rumpled and twisted sheets.  I can imagine the almost drunken pleasure of bees and other pollinators as they burrowed into the flower, creating this disorder!

Heavenly Hibiscus:Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Heavenly HibiscusIMG_5843 IMG_5845 IMG_5849 I found this gorgeous hibiscus outside the Casa del Sol B&B in Ajijic. I’ve been there twice in the past week for a Feria fashion show and then for a board meeting.  I broke my vow to never again attend a board meeting when I moved to Mexico!  Finally, after 14 years, I went to the Feria board meeting to find out what my duties as “coordinator of artist gifts” will be. (I’m not sure that is my title, but yeah, I caved for this very good cause.  I’ll give you more information later.)  It you love Mexican art (and if you live north of the border, you’ve never really seen the “real” stuff done by artists and artisans who continue centuries old traditions) you would love the Feria de Maestros del Arte! But more about that later.
