Not a Clematis or a Butterfly Bush: Flower of the Day, Feb 6, 2018

You did it, Cee!  It is a petrea volubilit, commonly known as a queen’s wreath or sandpiper vine! I am so happy to finally know the name of this bush. Now I need to find a way to remember its name. I owe you one.

I still can’t figure out what flower this is that grows beside the stairs up to Martin’s Restaurant in La Manzanilla, Mexico.  They are long sprays about a foot long.  The single flowers turn pale brown and papery and can be used dried. I’d love to know what they are.

Hibiscus? Flower of the Day, Dec 18, 2016

img_8826

Doesn’t look much like a hibiscus to you?  It is a macro of the center of the calyx after the flower has withered and fallen off.  It was just so intriguing to me that I had to post it.  It reminds me of something, but I can’t quite put my mind’s finger on what it is.

Coxcomb: Flower of the Day, Sept 1, 2016

IMG_0693Thanks, Christine Goodnough, for jogging my memory re/ the name of this beauty  from my friend Patty’s garden in Wyoming. I knew an animal was involved in its name, but couldn’t for the life remember what it was until you solved the mystery.

Surprise Gift: Flower of the Day Aug 4, 2016

This little lady came up volunteer this year right where I can see her every time I leave my house by the kitchen door.  I love the surprise of seeing her for the second time this year. She is just two inches across at her widest part. If she’d been any place else but where she is, I would have overlooked her for sure.  Thanks, nature, for another surprise!
(It’s obvious the bees have been loving her as well.)

I’m not sure what this lovely little flower is that volunteered its presence near my kitchen door.  If you know, please give me your verdict.

Mystery Flower of the Day, June 12, 2016

Version 2

I love the bud nubs in the background of this photo as much as the blossoms on the front. I took this down in the garden and should remember what this flower is but alas, I don’t.

Little Purple Bush Flower: Flower of the Day, May 27, 2016

Still Unidentified!!!

Here are some more shots of the little purple flower that I played around with yesterday.  I don’t think I gave any idea of how tiny it is, so I’m trying again today.  As you can see, it is smaller than a thumbnail and difficult to see against all the color of flashier flowers and foliage surrounding it. My research didn’t yield the name of this flowering bush, although at one point I saw two pictures of it on my screen that matched exactly.  I was so excited before I determined that I was looking at my own photos!  Back to the drawing board. (If you want to read the captions you need to either hover over the photo or click on first photo to enlarge them all and show captions.)
