Oligarchy

Oligarchy

The chill is on the mountain. Its  height seems insurmountable.
Tenebrous and unpassable, its obstacles uncountable.
And though failure is eminent, still we’ll do our best.
Deal with problems as they come. This is no time to rest.
Lend your hand for brothers struggling with the task.
Don’t settle for what’s easy and give them what they ask.
The dangers in just turning your back to the ordeal
is that the villains at the top will plot and cheat and steal
your conscience and your water, your air and liberty
until they’ve taken everything they can from you and me
and view the ruins of what they own, from sea to shining sea.

Prompt words today are tenebrous, chill, insurmountable, eminent and rest.

And Now, Live from the White House—

And Now, Live from the White House!!!

Of all the fake reality shows that fill our brains these days,
not one equals the White House for ridiculous displays.
They’re threatening to serialize his perpetual tweets—
his petty little comments, his braying and his bleats.
For when it comes to ludicrous, I’d say he fills the bill.
No other words more petty have been issued from the hill
in two hundred forty-three years since our country first began.
No other leader so foolish. No other leader so tan.
Perhaps those tanning rays have permanently fried his brain.
That serves as a solution for these comments so inane.
Now when it comes to comedy, it seems the whole world’s watching

to see how long we’ll put up with his blathering and botching.
They find it most amazing that his show has run so long
without somebody finding the nerve to ring the gong!!!

(If you don’t know what the Gong Show was, click below to find out:)

Prompt words for the day are threat, serialize, perpetual and bill.

Just today, Nov 4, 2025, I received this message from “Handy Barker” concerning this poem, which was quoted as a Dr. Seuss poem everywhere I could find it, or I would have quoted him as its author. Here is the note I received

Trump Threatens a U.S. Exit from the World’s Mail System

Illustration by Joe Magee for TIME

SEPTEMBER 19, 2019

As an American, Jeanne Glenz prizes her right to vote. But, because she lives near Munich with her German husband, exercising that right isn’t always easy. This year, it could get even harder, depending on the results of an obscure international meeting scheduled to take place in Geneva on Sept. 24-25. If the Trump Administration doesn’t get what it wants at that summit, the United States is set to withdraw from an arcane treaty that governs global mail delivery—leaving commercial shippers and military mail managers fretting, and election officials concerned that millions of overseas Americans will struggle to cast a vote.

Payback Rhythms

Payback Rhythms

The rhythm of the world as it tears us all asunder
is of hurricane and fire, rain and wind and thunder.
Fissures, ashes, ruins waterlogged and crumbled—
all advances of mankind his foolishness has tumbled.
What we do to it it does right back to us.
This scientific fact is not so nebulous.

Prompt words today are nebulous, fissure, sunder and rhythm. With the exception of the UPI photo of the hurricane, all photos taken by me. Click on any photo to enlarge all. Please give photos a few seconds to load and focus.

Calling Trump

Calling Trump

No remnant of credibility that he might have had
at the start of his dark odyssey clings to this foolish cad.
Claiming to solve problems that his actions just exacerbate,
mere echoes of his words still chide enough that they infuriate.

Of the seven deadly sins, he’s had a taste of all.
When, if they are so deadly, will they bring about his fall?
Lust and gluttony? For sure. Greed? No doubt about it.
Sloth and wrath, envy and pride? What sane man would doubt it?

He’s left his presidential desk, preferring his own throne.
He borrows other people’s deeds to claim them as his own.
He manufactures science, quoting no valid source.
Lessens the force of hurricanes while altering their course.

There’s nothing that he cannot do, at least in his own mind.
To serve his ends, he’ll put entire countries in a bind.
He’ll trump the hand of anyone. This game is not so hard.
If it’s lacking in his hand, he’ll just invent the card!

Today’s prompt words are infuriate, borrow, odyssey, remnant and seven.

Herded

IMG_1328Herded

If only we could rectify his brash and wicked pen
and go back to the saner world where we once had been,
where “sincere” was still a virtue yearned for by the masses
and a scrappy tweeting fool was not supported by the asses
who vended us their guns to turn against each other,
and make an enemy of one who could have been a brother.
Perhaps it’s true that we can win the vote and turn the tide,
but how can we affect the greater danger that’s inside?
All the hate within us that this monster has unfurled—
can we tuck it back inside to restore a saner world?
It is the way of nature, this violence and feeding
one thing upon the other, our wild hearts still beating

beneath our higher consciousness. Which part of us is winning?
All our better virtues counterbalanced with our sinning?
The problem is when things are skewed and evil is called good,
meanness and shortsightedness labelled brotherhood.
“Make America Great Again” a usurped slogan used
to herd together masses who then can be abused.
All the bleating, senseless lambs led into the slaughter.
Every fearful parent serving up their son or daughter
so the plastic rivers and the hurricane-fed winds
can circumvent their livelihoods and bring about their ends.
Like the mighty dinosaurs, wiped out from this earth
to see what newer species might grow up in their dearth.

Are my words hyperbole? Do I just rant and rave?
Is there no world redeemable left for us to save?
Should we give up and gaze at made-up worlds within our palms?
Using films on telephones to soothe our fearful qualms?
Whose great plan do we follow? Are we so so deluded now
that we no longer have an inkling left in us of how
to see a broader kinder world where we care for each other,
seeing humans far and near as sister and as brother?
In this world of selfies and facebooking and tweeting,
of foolish men herded like sheep, blindfolded and bleating,
can we return to sanity, our world to save and mend
or will we continue to be led, stampeding to our end?

Please comb your conscience and then vote for a saner world!

Prompt words today are scrap, rectifywicked, sincere and pen.

Will It Do Us Any Good to Vote????

Now that financial giants in the U.S. have staged a coup of our government, what will it take to escape this stranglehold if we can’t even count on being able to vote them out? Please read THIS NEWSWEEK REPORT about Mitch McConnell blocking voting machine reform after receiving campaign contributions from several different voting machine lobbyists. And, the likelihood that Russia has plans to affect voting machines during the next election. First the powers of free speech taken away re/ scientists being able to report on the climate crisis and protesters being able to protest the pipelines, now our right to a fair election challenged? What is it going to take for the majority to act????

Cheeto Christ Stupid Czar

OkcForgottenman sent me this newest Randy Rainbow parody. It’s as absurd as its subject.
