Tapalpa Bound: Cee’s Which Way Challenge, Sept 16, 2017

One of the most beautiful drives I’ve taken in Mexico is this drive during wildflower season, up to the village of Tapalpa in the the mountains near my home. I think I need to pass that way again this year.

Cosmos Pastoral: Flower of the Day, June 20, 2016

I’ve been doing so many closeups of flowers that it occurred to me that flowers can be as beautiful en masse as singly and close up, so for the next few days I want to show some of the acres of wildflowers that grow up in the mountains during September and October.

Rust and Rebozos: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: 2016, Week 25

Women at Rebozo Parade in Ajijic

I love the variety of the women shown in this photo and how each one conveys a different story. The obvious focus is the woman in the white dress, but I also love the contrast between the basket of flowers and the bright turquoise satin purse, the woman looking right at me from behind the hand of the woman adjusting her chignon.  Just so much going on that day of the rebozo parade and some of that is conveyed in this photo.

These are two favorite photos I found when looking through some old hard drives.  I could save them for a specific prompt, but by then I might have forgotten them, so here they are in odd balls.

Wire Roll on Fence on the Way to Tapalpa

On the road to Tapalpa!  This would have worked well for the curves prompt!  Love this rusty roll of wire flung over the fence.  Those old fences made out of whatever wood was at hand are still my favorites.  You can see some of the famous October wildflowers scattered around in the tall grass.

Just Follow the Bouncing Ball! Cee’s Which Way Challenge

Just Follow the Bouncing Ball!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The road and their soccer ball were of more interest to the boys than the fields of flowers.  Well, except for Oscar, that is. He was the toddler you saw with a fist full of flowers two days ago.  We’ll see where his interest lies now that he is ten when we repeat our trip to Tapalpa in a few weeks.

Just how big are the rocks of Tapalpa?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s hard to tell without some frame of reference.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So maybe this will help.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oscar experienced his first adventures in rock climbing

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As well as his first experience in reflective horizon-gazing with big sister Mago.

This is what they were looking at.

And this.

Little did they know that they were part of the scenery.

More Tapalpa Flowers

                                           More Tapalpa Flowers

I’ve always thought this Tapalpa scene looked like a scene from a French painting–the mist, the trees and the muted colors of the fields of flowers in the background.

I was trying to compensate for the shadows on the girls’ faces here and perhaps overdid it a bit.  Reminds me of the bright Kodacolor prints of the sixties!

Oscar and Carmen Play with Flowers (Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge)

Oscar and Carmen Play with Flowers

I think there were twelve of us in my full-sized van that day, off to see the wildflowers and rocks of Tapalpa.  This series of pictures is all about Carmen and Oscar. Oscar is the little boy you saw diligently doing his English homework at my dining room table a few days ago.  He is now nine.  In these pictures he is two.  Carmen is his sister and stylist.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oscar was pretty happy with his handful of pristine white flowers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

But Carmen had a better idea.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She looked beautiful in her  cosmos garland, in spite of the sun in her eyes that gave her a wistful look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

But she had further plans.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And I’m not too sure how Oscar feels about his sister’s attempt to spruce up his look, but I thought he looked adorable!

I have never seen such a profusion of flowers as on the road to Tapalpa.

For miles and miles, the fields are full of wildflowers.  These pictures were taken in October, when the flowers were at their height of bloom.
