Zoe Report III, Feb 15, 2022

Zoe was up at 2:30 a.m. and back asleep much faster than Mom was. I’ve started going to bed at 10:30 to get 4 hours of sleep, then take her outside for a pee when she wakes up and cries to be taken outside, play for awhile, then head back to bed where she falls asleep cuddled as close to my ear as possible and, fully awake, I do my blogs and Wordle before going back to bed at 4:30. Then up at 8 to feed the other critters.

She now has the run of the house, comes running when I make a kissing sound, comes to whatever room I’m in. When I take her out front to pee, she makes a beeline for the unfinished cat food and goes into a shivering frenzy over it until I put it up in the cupboard. She’s also been out without a leash but carefully watched, to communicate with Diego and Morrie. Diego follows her everywhere, nuzzling her nose, and is very careful with her.

Morrie ignores her completely but just today came over and went nose-to-nose for a small while and was careful with her. She walked over to the pool to see if Catherine was there but when she wasn’t, backed away. I’ll never let her out near the pool alone until she’s big enough to swim and use the stairs out of the pool. She weighs almost 2 pounds and is a very smart girl and fast learner.

New Puppy: The Sunday Whirl 540

New Puppy

She’s distracted in a heartbeat by a petal or a stone.
No errant tuft of grass is ever left alone.
She does battle with the gate, makes fairy trails through sand,
makes a complicated plaything of a single human hand.

The spill of lacy shadows by the sun above the trees,
the ticking of a clock or the slightest little breeze
all demand attention. There’s no limit to the things
that become her playthings: bottles, fingers, strings.

Only sunset brings a finish to frenetic hours of play.
There is a certain surcease, finally, at the end of day.
But 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. and 6.a.m. again
mark hours when new playtimes are scheduled to begin.

Prompt words today are: sunset finish  string spill heartbeat trails  tick stone gate

Frida and Zoe

Forgottenman has pointed out how much Zoe looks like Frida when I first found here. Here are their photos, side-by-side.

And here is the video of Zoe bravely challenging the beer bottle that I couldn’t get posted in yesterday’s blog:

Trip to La Mosca Restaurante–With a Bonus

Yes that’s right. We took a special trip up the coast to visit an oceanside restaurant named “La Mosca” or “The Fly.” My friends went for the fresh fish, I went for the views but ended up coming home with a bonus..a tiny puppy that we named “Zoe” who will be coming home to San Juan Cosala with me tomorrow. She’s already had a number of adventures, as have we, being her companions. You will no doubt see more of her in the future. Luckily, there were more birds than flies at La Mosca.

Here is one video of Zoe at play. I’ll add another later. The best one I took, I forgot to turn the video recorder on!!! Of course.
