Just Follow the Bouncing Ball! Cee’s Which Way Challenge

Just Follow the Bouncing Ball!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The road and their soccer ball were of more interest to the boys than the fields of flowers.  Well, except for Oscar, that is. He was the toddler you saw with a fist full of flowers two days ago.  We’ll see where his interest lies now that he is ten when we repeat our trip to Tapalpa in a few weeks.

Repromptophobia

Rewriting a new poem about an old topic is my greatest phobia at the moment, so since I wrote a poem about this topic some time ago, please go HERE for my poem about my greatest phobia!

Marigolds: Flower of the Day

In Mexico, Dia de los Muertos is synonymous with marigolds, which are sold by the truckload!  DSC08967

Just how big are the rocks of Tapalpa?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s hard to tell without some frame of reference.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So maybe this will help.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Oscar experienced his first adventures in rock climbing

As well as his first experience in reflective horizon-gazing with big sister Mago.

This is what they were looking at.

And this.

Little did they know that they were part of the scenery.

Tabachine: Flower of the Day

DSCN1356This Tabachine (Dwarf Poinciana, Flame Tree, Flamboyant)  bush almost hurts the eyes.  It was actually swarming with dozens of black swallowtails, but I managed to catch just one in my lens.  They move fast.

Root-a-toot-toot (Appetite)

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “These Horns Were Made for Tooting.”Today, share something you love about yourself  — don’t be shy, be confident! — but that few other people know about you or get to see very often.

I don’t have very much patience for submitting poems for publication or entering contests or trying to find agents or publishers. I’ve played the games at times but it never seemed worth the time spent. One exception was when I decided to enter a number of contests at once. I believe I entered ten, but it may have been less. Rejection after rejection came in. There were a few near-misses where I was a semifinalist. Then, the last letter came in and lo and behold, I had won first place in a national poetry contest. My notification was accompanied by a check for $500! The judge’s comment included the statement that she had awarded me the prize for my sheer audacity in submitting a poem that took twelve minutes to read. Ha. Here is the poem. I will grant a special prize to anyone who makes it to the end! (I believe this is a shortened version of the poem I submitted.)

More Tapalpa Flowers

                                           More Tapalpa Flowers

I’ve always thought this Tapalpa scene looked like a scene from a French painting–the mist, the trees and the muted colors of the fields of flowers in the background.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd here are other scenes from the day’s outing.  Fourteen of us  traveling in my van, including me, (taking the picture) and baby Oscar who is hidden in his sister’s arms.

I was trying to compensate for the shadows on the girls’ faces here and perhaps overdid it a bit.  Reminds me of the bright Kodacolor prints of the sixties!

It’s Not All About UsDSC09291
It’s not all about us, whatever you say.
New days will still dawn when we’ve all passed away.
Though the world that we’ve made is important to us,
We’ve made hardly a dent with our foment and fuss.
All our grand plans and writings and arts
Are not new to this world. They’re just new to our hearts.
Everything everywhere has always been.
We just refind it again and again.
So when those with the power destroy where we’ve been,
it will all just start over–beginning again!
When the last bomb has been launched, dropped or hurled,
We’ll be gone, but all will be well with our world.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “No Cliffhangers.” Write a post about the topic of your choice, in whatever style you want, but make sure to end it with “…and all was well with the world.”

Something Fishy: Shannon’s Creative Photo Challenge

Something Fishy

I don’t eat fish, but couldn’t resist photographing them in the Lima, Peru Fish Market!
